Is this the next late round gem outta Kent State......maybe

Cleveland Browns are only team to witness Kent's Jameson Konz put up "freakish" numbers

By Tony Grossi

Phil Mastur, Beacon JournalKent State wide receiver/H-back Jameson Konz, a native of Uniontown, Ohio, played three seasons at linebacker before moving to offense. While he hasn't received much publicity, NFL scouts have taken notice of his size, speed and versatility.CLEVELAND -- Kent State linebacker/fullback Jameson Konz put on an impressive display in his personal workout this morning at the school's lonely pro day.

Because Kent's pro day conflicted with those of major schools with multiple prospects, such as Nebraska, Idaho, Oregon and Boston College, attendance at Kent was scarce. In fact, the Browns were the only NFL team to send a scout.

What he saw was Konz put on an athletic display described as "freakish."

Konz measured 6-3 and 234 pounds. He was timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.46 seconds. Asked to run a second one, he timed 4.38.

Konz also posted a 46-inch vertical jump and a broad jump of 10 feet, 8 1/4 inches.

Konz is considered a prospect to play tight end, H-back or fullback in the NFL. His numbers better the top figures posted by any tight end or fullback at the NFL Scouting Combine. The closest numbers to Konz's were put up by tight end Dorin Dickerson of Pittsburgh, who ran 4.40 in the 40, jumped 43.5 inches in the vertical and had a broad jump of 10 feet, 5 inches. Dickerson is projected to be taken in the third or fourth round.

When the results are circulated, Konz is expected to receive invitations to visit NFL teams for closer inspection. This is what happened to Kent quarterback Julian Edelman last year, who eventually was drafted by New England in the seventh round and became a valuable receiver/special teamer as a rookie.

Reply to Pro Days on Wed, 24 Mar 2010 18:08:02 GMT

Posted by: John Taylor

Browns Looking at a Kindle

No, not the electronic book reader. We’re talking about the pass-rushing Longhorn.

According to Scout.com’s Chris Steuber, athlete/hybrid/physical freak Sergio Kindle will be brought in for a visit by the Browns – as well as the Tennessee Titans – at some point next week.

Kindle undoubtedly has high first-round talent, but there are some character concerns that could push him into the second round. And into the Browns’ range if they are so inclined.

Browns Work Out Utah OT

Per Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post and Ravens Insider, the Cleveland Browns have worked out OL Zane Beadles of Utah.

Beadles is a 6’4'”, 307 pound tackle who Chris Steuber ranks as #14 among all the offensive tackles available in this year’s draft. Here’s Beadle’s prospect profile from Steuber. Beadles has played left guard, but was moved to left tackle before his sophomore year.

The four-year starter beings a lot of versatility to the table, which is going to make him a solid mid-round selection. The Browns are likely looking at him as someone who can play left guard and back up Steinbach for now - and perhaps challenge for a starting job in years go come.

A name to watch late in the third or early in the fourth.

by josh martin Contributor Written on March 19, 2010

Florida State cornerback Patrick Robinson clocked a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash at the Seminoles' Pro Day workout.

And he's scheduled to conduct a private workout for the Cleveland Browns next Tuesday.

Robinson told National Football Post that he's scheduled to visit the Browns as well as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers.

"I’m pretty satisfied with what I did at my workout," Robinson said today. "The teams said I did a good job. I just have to be consistent with what I'm doing. I think it's going pretty well. I'm trying to enjoy it."

Robinson's workout was attended by San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, according to NFL.com.

Robinson is regarded as a potential first-round draft pick.

His official times were 4.40 and 4.44 seconds.

He also had a 6.89 in the three-cone drill and a 4.29 short shuttle.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder ran a 4.46 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine, also bench pressing 225 pounds 15 times and posted a 39-inch vertical leap and a 10-2 broad jump. He registered 47 tackles and 11 pass deflections last season and intercepted six passes back in 2007.

"I would love to go in the first round," Robinson said. "It's been a while since we had someone go in the first round, so I would love to be the next one."

Meanwhile, Florida State linebacker Dekoda Watson showed off his speed.

He went down to 226 pounds after weighing 240 pounds at the scouting combine and dropped his 40-yard dash times to 4.40 and 4.46 seconds after running a 4.56 in Indianapolis.

“I felt like I was a lot more comfortable here than what I was at the combine, where I didn’t know anybody," Watson said in an FSU press release. "Now I’m home with a lot of guys I played with and I’m used to seeing, like Mickey Andrews. It’s a good feeling to come out here and perform.

“I was definitely interested in posting a better number, because I didn’t feel like I ran like I was supposed to at the combine. I wasn’t comfortable with the surroundings and the setting and looking at the film from the combine, I noticed that my knee lift wasn’t where it was supposed to be and knocked my 40 time down at the combine.

As long as it was in that 4.4 range, I can’t be mad.”

So lets all hope Cleveland gets him

Written by NFL Draft Bible Friday, 19 March 2010 10:55

LeGarrette Blount arrived for Oregon’s pro day Thursday at the Moshofsky Center with one goal in mind: Run fast and improve his stock for the upcoming NFL draft. The Oregon running back was pleased after posting an unofficial time of 4.54 in the 40-yard dash, nearly one tenth of a second faster than he ran last month at the NFL combine in Indianapolis. Running in shorts and without a shirt, Blount looked in shape at a muscular 238 pounds. “It was pretty nerve wracking at the combine, so many people watching you, the hype. You can’t relax at all,” Blount said. “Here I had familiar surroundings. I was more relaxed, more laid back.” Scouts from the Cleveland Browns and BC Lions of the Canadian Football League were in attendance. Regarded as one of the nation’s premier running backs entering the 2009 season, Blount’s senior season was derailed in the opener Sept. 3 at Boise State after he punched a Boise State player in a well-documented postgame meltdown.

CLEVELandMILIDH

Reply to Pro Days on Fri, 19 Mar 2010 12:58:52 GMT

A report from the West Virginia QB's pro day:

The headliner at West Virginia's pro day workout was QB Jarrett Brown, who measured 6-foot-2⅞ and 222 pounds and looked thick and well-built up top.

We've raved about Browns throwing motion and release for some time and he looked very good in this setting. He snapped the ball off with his over-the-top release and threw tight spirals that drove down the field when he let it rip, though the ball did flutter a bit when he seemed to aim the ball on some deeper routes and his accuracy suffered some.

Still, Brown's arm strength is excellent and his footwork when dropping from under center is improving. He has better rhythm and timing in hid drops and the scouts in attendance were impressed with Brown's physical tools. He needs to improve his awareness of the blitz and ability to read coverages, and he must make quicker decisions, so Brown remains a project. He has one of the better physical skill sets among the 2010 quarterbacks, though, and has moved himself into the early part of the fourth round.

According to my sources, the Browns had more scouts there than any other team. The Steelers also sent two of their scouts, so there's a good chance Brown will end up somewhere in the AFC North.

Naaman Roosevelt, WR, Buffalo

Height: 6-0. Weight: 189.

Projected 40 Time: 4.49.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.60.

Vertical: 36. Broad: 9-8.

Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

3/5/10: Naaman Roosevelt ran a 4.60 at his Pro Day - not exactly the time he was looking for.

James Starks, RB, Buffalo

Height: 6-2. Weight: 214.

Projected 40 Time: 4.55.

Combine 40 Time: 4.48.

Oklahoma

Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma - Scouting Report

Height: 6-4. Weight: 236.

Projected 40 Time: 4.79.

Combine 40 Time: .

Hand: 9 1/2.

Projected Round (2010): Top 4 Pick.

2/27/10: Sam Bradford weighed in at 6-4 1/4 and 236 pounds. Bradford certainly did a lot of bulking up recently to quell the notion that he's brittle and can't take a beating. Despite being the inferior prospect, he has emerged as the favorite to go No. 1 overall to St. Louis, but I wouldn't count out Jimmy Clausen quite yet, seeing as how the Rams haven't even interviewed with him yet.

Keenan Clayton, OLB, Oklahoma

Height: 6-1. Weight: 229.

Projected 40 Time: 4.62.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.47.

Benchx225: 10. Vertical: .

Projected Round (2010): 2-3.

3/9/10: Dominique Franks ran a 4.47 at his Pro Day. He's a likely second-round pick.

DeMarcus Granger, NT, Oklahoma

Height: 6-1. Weight: 320.

Projected 40 Time: 5.40.

Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.

Benchx225: 32. Vertical: .

Projected Round (2010): FA.

3/9/10: DeMarcus Granger only took part in the bench press at his Pro Day. Well... at least we know he's strong like bear.

Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma - Scouting Report

Height: 6-5. Weight: 259.

Projected 40 Time: 4.64.

Combine 40 Time: 4.76.

Benchx225: 20. Vertical: 35. Arm: 34 3/4.

Brian Jackson, CB, Oklahoma

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.60.

Benchx225: 20. Vertical: 38.

Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

3/9/10: Not a good Pro Day 40 for Brian Jackson. He may have to move to free safety.

Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma - Scouting Report

Height: 6-4. Weight: 298.

Projected 40 Time: 5.01.

Combine 40 Time: 4.96.

Antonio Coleman, DE/OLB, Auburn

Height: 6-1. Weight: 248.

Projected 40 Time: 4.79.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.77.

Benchx225: 18. Vertical: 33.5.

Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

Walter McFadden, CB, Auburn

Height: 5-11. Weight: 181.

Projected 40 Time: 4.43.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.40.

Benchx225: 5. Vertical: 35.5.

Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.

Ben Tate, RB, Auburn

Height: 5-11. Weight: 219.

Projected 40 Time: 4.54.

Combine 40 Time: 4.45.

Benchx225: 26. Vertical: 40.5. Broad: 10-4.

Projected Round (2010): 2-4.

3/9/10: Ben Tate looked good in his position drills at Auburn's Pro Day. He may sneak into the second round if a zone-blocking team is interested enough.

3/1/10: Ben Tate made a lot of noise at the Combine, running a 4.45 at 220 pounds. He also posted 26 reps of 225, a vertical of 40.5 inches and a 10-4 broad jump.

John Skelton, QB, Fordham

Height: 6-5. Weight: 241.

Projected 40 Time: 5.00.

Combine 40 Time: 4.85.

Hand: 9 3/4.

Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

3/11/10: Two teams reportedly have a third-round grade on John Skelton. Considering the lack of depth at the quarterback position this year, Skelton could easily be chosen on Day 2.

Andrew Tyshovnytsky, OT, Fordham

Height: 6-4. Weight: 317.

Projected 40 Time: 5.10.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.91.

Benchx225: 33. Arm: .

Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

3/9/10: Andrew Tyshovnytsky shined at his Pro Day. In addition to running a 4.91 and benching 225 pounds 33 times, he performed well in the positional drills. If Al Davis' gargoyles get these numbers to their master, Tyshovnytsky will be an Oakland Raider.

Pro Days March 9th

Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama - Scouting Report

Height: 6-4. Weight: 349.

Projected 40 Time: 5.50.

Combine 40 Time: 5.64.

Pro Day 40 Time: 5.62.

Benchx225: 22. Vertical: .

Projected Round (2010): 1-2.

3/10/10: Terrence Cody trimmed yet another five pounds off his massive figure, weighing in at 349 pounds at his Pro Day. So much for not being able to control his weight.

Mike Johnson, G, Alabama

Height: 6-6. Weight: 312.

Projected 40 Time: 5.20.

Pro Day 40 Time: 5.31.

Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama - Scouting Report

Height: 6-3. Weight: 249.

Projected 40 Time: 4.65.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.69.

Benchx225: 24. Vertical: 35.

Projected Round (2010): Top 18 Pick.

3/10/10: Rolando McClain ran a 4.69 40 and leaped a 35-inch vertical at his Pro Day. However, the big news is that McClain was diagnosed with Chrohn's disease, which sounds a lot worse than it is. Chrohn's will not affect McClain's play on the field. Lots of people, including David Garrard, have Chrohn's and it really doesn't impact their lives all that much as long as it's monitored. McClain is still a top-18 pick.

Colin Peek, TE, Alabama

Height: 6-5. Weight: 252.

Projected 40 Time: 4.79.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.93.

Benchx225: 19. Vertical: 34.5. Arm: 34.

Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

3/10/10: Ran a 4.93 at his Pro Day. Not good.

Dezmon Briscoe, WR, Kansas

Height: 6-2. Weight: 208.

Projected 40 Time: 4.56.

Combine 40 Time: 4.61.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.51.

Vertical: 34. Broad: 10-0.

Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

3/10/10: Dezmon Briscoe helped himself at his Pro Day with a 4.51 40, though Pro Day 40s have been known to be a bit shady.

Kerry Meier, WR, Kansas

Height: 6-2. Weight: 215.

Projected 40 Time: 4.61.

Combine 40 Time: 4.62.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.51.

Vertical: . Broad: .

Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.

3/10/10: See what I mean about Pro Day times being shady? Seems like the Kansas players ran a 39-yard dash.

Jake Sharp, RB, Kansas

Height: 5-9. Weight: 194.

Projected 40 Time: 4.45.

Donald Butler, ILB, Washington

Height: 6-1. Weight: 235.

Projected 40 Time: 4.84.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.61.

Benchx225: 35. Vertical: 35.5.

Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

3/10/10: Donald Butler lost about 10 pounds, but managed to run the 40 in 4.61 seconds.

Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, DE, Washington

Height: 6-4. Weight: 267.

Projected 40 Time: 4.77.

Combine 40 Time: 4.72.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.72.

Benchx225: 29. Vertical: 37.

Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

3/2/10: Daniel Te'o-Nesheim put on a good performance at the Combine. Despite bulking about from 250 to 263, Te'o-Nesheim ran a 4.72, benched 29 reps and had a vertical of 37 inches. And he's not some workout warrior; Te'o-Nesheim had 9.5 sacks in 2009, eight sacks in 2008 and 8.5 sacks in 2007.

Ben Burney, CB, Colorado

Height: 5-11. Weight: 202.

Projected 40 Time: 4.51.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.38.

Benchx225: 16. Vertical: 39.

Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

3/10/10: Ben Burney put himself on the map with a 4.38 40 and a 39-inch vertical at Colorado's Pro Day. He now has a chance to be drafted late.

Riar Geer, TE, Colorado

Height: 6-3. Weight: 259.

Projected 40 Time: 4.80.

Combine 40 Time: 4.98.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.55.

Benchx225: 31. Vertical: 36.5.

Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

3/10/10: Ran a solid 4.55 at his Pro Day. He should be a situational pass-rusher in the NFL.

Mardy Gilyard, WR/KR, Cincinnati

Height: 6-0. Weight: 187.

Projected 40 Time: 4.45.

Combine 40 Time: 4.56.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.47.

Vertical: 39. Broad: .

Projected Round (2010): 2-3.

3/10/10: Mardy Gilyard improved his 40 time to 4.47 at his Pro Day. But be wary of shady Pro Day times.

Ricardo Mathews, DT, Cincinnati

Height: 6-2. Weight: 290.

Projected 40 Time: 4.94.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.80.

Benchx225: 21. Vertical: 33.5.

Projected Round (2010): 6-7.

3/10/10: Aaron Webster ran an impressive 4.48 40 at his Pro Day, but Cincinnati's 40 times seemed a bit too fast on Wednesday.

Micah Johnson, ILB, Kentucky - Scouting Report

Height: 6-2. Weight: 256.

Projected 40 Time: 4.71.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.84.

Benchx225: 31. Vertical: .

Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

3/10/10: After a disgraceful 4.99 at the Combine, Micah Johnson ran an improved 4.84 at his Pro Day, which is still too slow.

Trevard Lindley, CB, Kentucky - Scouting Report

Height: 5-11. Weight: 183.

Projected 40 Time: 4.46.

Combine 40 Time: 4.53.

Pro Day 40 Time: 4.50.

Benchx225: 9. Vertical: 38.

Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

1/31/10: Mardy Gilyard embarrassed Trevard Lindley in coverage. Lindley's stock has plummeted.

Sam Maxwell, OLB, Kentucky

Benchx225: 26. Vertical: .

Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

3/10/10: Corey Peters ran an impressive 4.90 at his Pro Day. He also posted 26 reps of 225. He solidified his early-mid Day 3 status. 11/28/09: Having a solid senior campaign for the Wildcats with 49 tackles, 11 TFL and four sacks.

Ryan D'Imperio, ILB, Rutgers

Height: 6-1. Weight: 241.

Benchx225: 24. Arm: .

Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.

3/10/10: Could only complete one 40-yard dash (5.65) at his Pro Day. Sad, but true.

George Johnson, DE, Rutgers

Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.

3/11/10: Pulled a hamstring in his Pro Day 40, which would explain the slow time.

Andrew Lewis, G/C, Oklahoma State

Height: 6-5. Weight: 298.

Projected 40 Time: 5.29.

Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.

Benchx225: 38. Arm: 36.

Projected Round (2010): Top 5 Pick.

3/11/10: Russell Okung didn't run at his Pro Day, but he weighed in at a solid 310 pounds (he was 307 at the Combine).

2/27/10: Despite having 36-inch arms, Russell Okung posted 38 reps of 225 pounds at the Combine. Barring a poor Saturday, Okung will walk away from the Combine as a perceived blue-chip prospect. As I've been saying for months, the Lions would be wise to draft him No. 2 overall. But regardless of what happens there, Okung is not making it past the Chiefs at No. 5.

2/26/10: Russell Okung solidified his top-five status by weighing in at 6-5, 307, with 36-inch arms. It'll be very difficult for the Chiefs to pass on a stud left tackle like Okung at No. 5 - assuming he makes it there.

This was the first opportunity for safety Kurt Coleman and defensive tackle Doug Worthington to workout for scouts and other NFL personnel. Both Coleman (groin) and Worthington (strained pectoral muscle) were unable to participate in Indianapolis at the combine last month due to injury.

Defensive end Thaddeus Gibson turned some heads on Friday when he posted 40 times of 4.59 and 4.58 seconds—a nice improvement from the 4.79 and 4.82 he ran at the combine.

One small-school player to take note of is cornerback Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (6-0 ½, 207) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The speedy CB was clocked at 4.31 and 4.35 in the 40-yard-dash at Ohio State’s pro day. He also put up 21 reps on the bench press (225 lbs).
