BEREA -- The first preseason game of a new year always is notable because it's the first time NFL coaches are required to post a depth chart.

Here is what Browns coach Eric Mangini turned in as his team's first official depth chart:

Offense: WR Mohamed Massaquoi, LT Joe Thomas, LG Eric Steinbach, C Alex Mack, RG Floyd Womack, RT John St. Clair, TE Benjamin Watson, WR Brian Robiskie, QB Jake Delhomme, FB Lawrence Vickers, RB Jerome Harrison.

Defense: LE Robaire Smith, NT Ahytba Rubin, RE Kenyon Coleman, OLB Matt Roth, ILB D'Qwell Jackson, ILB Chris Gocong, OLB Scott Fujita, LCB Eric Wright, RCB Sheldon Brown, S Abram Elam, S T.J. Ward.

In other depth chart items:

* With rookie Montario Hardesty still out with a knee injury, James Davis is listed as the No. 2 back.

* Josh Cribbs is listed behind Robiskie at one WR spot. Chansi Stuckey is listed behind Massaquoi.

* The top backup CBs are Brandon McDonald and Joe Haden.

* The top backup ILBs are Eric Barton and Kaluka Maiava.

* David Bowens, who spent a lot of 2009 playing inside, is listed as the first backup behind Fujita on the right outside. Marcus Benard is the other backup OLB.

Reply to Browns release depth chart on Tue, 17 Aug 2010 18:54:02 GMT

Hope s brown can provide some motivation and leadership to his new teammates

slowburn

Reply to Browns release depth chart on Tue, 17 Aug 2010 19:13:41 GMT

@<bdi>mr.-t</bdi> said:
We really need some depth at the WR spot.

Browns OLB Marcus Benard moved into the starting lineup Tuesday, pushing Scott Fujita inside with Chris Gocong. Fujita will fill in for D'Qwell Jackson (pectorals), who is out anywhere from 3-8 weeks

I like this lineup alot better, Barton is to slow and flat footed, Fujita isn't a very good pass rusher I think he'll be better inside. With Roth and Gocong we should be able to get better pressure from the outside, watchout Sam Bradford.

CLEVELandMILIDH

Reply to Browns release depth chart on Thu, 12 Aug 2010 00:42:55 GMT

@<bdi>canton-mike</bdi> said:
Yep. You do the math. But the best part is we now have legitimate depth even behind the new starters. All the linebackers have capable backups (Bowens, Trusnik, Maiava, Benard) as do the secondary players (Adams, McDonald, Asante).

Obviously next year's draft, which I loathe to even bring up in August, gathering young talent along the D-line will be important.

On offense, it had better be the last time St. Clair's name is listed with the 1's. Lauvao will win the RG job before the leaves fall and Womack/Pashos will end up anchoring the right side of the line.
