The Browns will have a new punter this season.

The team placed Dave Zastudil on injured reserve Tuesday, meaning that Reggie Hodges will be the team's punter and holder for 2010. Hodges isn't actually that new, as he replaced Zastudil late last season when nine-year veteran tore his patella tendon.

Zastudil struggled to recover from the injury, but Browns coach Eric Mangini said he wouldn't be surprised to see him back with the Browns in 2011.

Reply to Zastudil done for the season on Thu, 19 Aug 2010 01:22:33 GMT

Zastudil's consistency and strategic value are going to be sorely missed by the ST unit, and hodges likely has the job this year which could be somewhat unfortunate unless he can get more consistent..

Gips

Reply to Zastudil done for the season on Wed, 18 Aug 2010 18:35:03 GMT

@<bdi>the-gipper</bdi> said:
Here are the players with the most number of punts in their career for the Browns:

Cockroft served as the Browns' primary punter and placekicker for the first 9 seasons of his career. In 1977 he dropped punting from his duties and became solely a placekicker. He and Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker/punter Dave Green were two of the last NFL players to lead their teams in both punting and kicking in the same season (1976).

OK, not him, but I think the guy I had in mind was Steve Cox. He was the Browns regular punter for 4 years, plus he would try the occasional long FG. You should watch. It has nothing to do with a punt. The longsnapper snapped the ball at an angle which ricocheted off of Nick Sorenson and landed in our own end zone. Thats not Reggies fault.

What is Reggies fault is that instead of diving on the ball and us only giving up a safety (he had at least 5 second where he could cleanly dive on the ball, no one was even close to him), he runs around the ball, waits for a KC player to dive on it for a TD, then lands on the pile, falls off the pile, and acts like he is injured (even though film shows there was no way in hell he could have been).

Just watch. You will understand why I don't like this guy.
