The Cleveland Browns added a receiver who should be very familiar to AFC North fans.

Cleveland announced Tuesday that it signed former Baltimore Ravens receiver Demetrius Williams. The team also claimed running back Thomas Clayton off the New England Patriots' practice squad and released James Davis and Yamon Figurs.

Williams played for the Ravens from 2006-09 and was cut earlier this year. He showed flashes of talent in Baltimore but had problems staying healthy. But Williams may have a shot to stick in Cleveland, because receiver is one of the team's biggest needs.

NOTE: This is actually a huge move for us. He had one of the best college careers of any receiver and showed good things in Baltimore, but injuries kept him out. Hopefully he can stay healthy.

Reply to Browns Add WR Demetrius Williams on Sun, 31 Oct 2010 02:52:51 GMT

@<bdi>medicineman</bdi> said:
I just can't figure out why we didn't nab a wr in free agency? For any of you who have seen the movie Unbreakable, Demetrius Williams is "Mr. Glass." Every year he was on the Ravens roster was the year he was supposed to break out as a great player. Every year he was on the Ravens roster he would have 2-3 outstanding plays, and then get injured and be out for the rest of the year. I wouldn't be too excited about his pick up, at least "Yamon*" is fun to say and he was a good return man.

All I want to say is don't give up on this guy. Look at the season Lance Moore is having with the Saints. We had a chance to sign him as an undrafted free agent a few years ago, but he said he wasn't good enough during try outs and we dropped him, then after have 3 years of work in the NFL he broke out with the saint 1-2 years ago and now he is a solid receiver.

Harry Buffalo

Reply to Browns Add WR Demetrius Williams on Wed, 27 Oct 2010 10:47:58 GMT

@<bdi>hoorta</bdi> said:
What kind of coverage was that?

Just like we saw the Patriots bring in Tom Brady to replace Bledsole, oh wait... that's not correct. Brady was kept on the bench until Bledsole was too injured to play.

You gotta let the kid get on the field and start playing before you rule him out. Not saying he's going to be Colston, but you never know how a player is going to pan out until they get some game time. Sometimes a player just doesn't get a chance due to his position on the depth chart.

I will admit, i'm a USF homer and always was a fan of Mitchell. Hopefully i'm not using the blinders, but I just want us to give him a chance to succeed.

USFBrown

Reply to Browns Add WR Demetrius Williams on Wed, 27 Oct 2010 07:11:31 GMT

@<bdi>mr.-t</bdi> said:
No but if im correct this is a video of him in college

Lol i would say you are right on both counts! Im thinking we will keep seeing musical WRs and maybe RBs as well throughout the season and continuing on next year and beyond in search of that elusive unknown leftover talent that can mesh with our system/gameplan, heckert and mangini appear to be working very closely together to find what the team needs, as for the round of the player/experience of the player i believe we are looking to add stability and impact and if the new guy dont/wont/cant work in our system we waive them when something else pops up on the radar and we try again, both heckert and mangini are being very aggressive and determined as a team to throw a full functioning unit together and ya cant help but to like the effort!

Gips

Reply to Browns Add WR Demetrius Williams on Tue, 26 Oct 2010 19:05:24 GMT

@<bdi>hoorta</bdi> said:
Mitchell, Mitchell, MITCHELL!!!!!
