*************************

The Browns are reportedly targeting Eagles secondary coach Dick Jauron as Rob Ryan's replacement at defensive coordinator.

Team president Mike Holmgren has moved on from Ryan. He has a strong relationship with Jauron, who was his defensive backs coach with the Packers in the early '90s. Jauron's head coaching experience also makes for a valuable sounding board with Pat Shurmur taking the reins for the first time.Source: NFL.com Related: EaglesCowbos Defese - TMJan. 13 - 9:07 pm etThe Cowboys reportedly have their sights et on Browns DC Rob Ryan to fill the same position in Dallas.

The Ft. Worth Star-Telegram confirms that Ryan will interview Friday. It's no surprise that Rex's twin brother's big personality would appeal to owner Jerry Jones, though his work speaks for itself. Ryan boasts the best track record of the Cowboys' candidates, and he appears to be on the outs in Cleveland after Pat Shurmur's hiring. Ryan would keep the 3-4 scheme intact in Dallas.Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter Related: Browns

Reply to Browns targeting Eagles secondary coach Dick Jauron on Mon, 17 Jan 2011 06:09:52 GMT

i dono but ive never been a fan of Dick Jauron just havent but if thats who they want as the new DC then hell i guess we'll have to live with it,been a browns fan all my life will be a browns fan all my life Dick Jauron or no other coach will change that...Heres to hoping he does something here in Cleveland bring him aboard

Nw220

Reply to Browns targeting Eagles secondary coach Dick Jauron on Sun, 16 Jan 2011 20:16:21 GMT

@<bdi>gips</bdi> said:
Im starting to get concerned about us getting a capable DC most of the DCs left look bad to only middle of the road to me...

The thing about Singletary is he's a very proud man...played with fire and heart...That doesn't automatically make one a great coach, but I

Mcdermott just got canned Jauron is going to be promoted to DC in Philly so we wont be getting him as a DC now. And I want no part of this Mcdermot fellow. Hopefully we can get Wanstedt.

Eagles send Sean McDermott packing

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/...ermott-packing/

Two years ago, Eagles defensive backs coach Sean McDermott was promoted to the position of defensive coordinator, due to the serious health issues of Jim Johnson, who later would succumb to cancer.

Less than a week after the Eagles’ season ended in the playoffs, McDermott has been fired, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Hints of trouble for McDermott came when coach Andy Reid became more involved in the defense. In late October, ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio said that McDermott could soon be out.

“There is no question about that,” Paolantonio said. “I don’t know how much input Dick Jauron has in the defensive game plan, I’m sure he has quite a bit, but eventually they may have to make a switch there.”

Some criticized Paolantonio for suggesting that Reid would fire McDermott. (We suggest that Paolantonio not hold his breath in anticipation of any apologies.)

The move comes at a time when Eagles assistant Dick Jauron is drawing interest in Cleveland. Reid possibly realizes that the time has come to bump Jauron up. To do so, Reid first had to bump McDermott out.

ITHIKA

Reply to Browns targeting Eagles secondary coach Dick Jauron on Sun, 16 Jan 2011 15:44:10 GMT

Something I found in Philly paper on Jauron:

Not a bad idea at all- bring in a real experienced coordinator (who's had HC experience) to mentor the rookie HC. There's some guys who are great coordinators who were lousy head coaches. Dick LeBeau anyone?

 Don't forget:

1. Mike Nolan (MIA)

2. Romeo Crennel (KC)

3. Jim Hasslet (WAS)

4. Rod Marinelli (Bears)

5. Gunther Cunningham (DET)

6. Dom Capers (GB)

Some have had better success than others. Three of these coaches fielded playoff teams this year. Romeo has five Super Bowl rings from his defensive coaching efforts. Valid argument regarding coaches finding their niche. Could Mangini be joining this list in the future? Jaurons defenses were awesome in Buffalo...lemme tell ya
