top dlineman and many teams were on him fast. Time will tell by his play how washed up he is and whether we needed him or not.

Anyway, Rogers came from a 4-3 which he was more suited to anyway when Detroit gave up on the lazy slob and we tried to make him into a 3-4 nose tackle among the other blunders of Savage.

He never did get the players suited to a 3-4 his time here

Further, Rogers was never in good enough shape to play three straight downs without being gassed

BTW, Bodden is still playing and was starting for NE when he went on IR last year.

Things are getting way better under the new management although I did not necessarity feel the had to remove Mangini. He was road kill in the ego department for Holmgren who also wanted a more offensive minded head coach.

The Browns need to focus on drafting offensive skill players NO MORE OL GUYS with top picks

one last note to answer Canton Legends remark about why Rogers was cut. Simple he was virtually useless the last two seasons and the team performed better on defense in 09 after he went on IR and no team was interested in trading for him. That sums garbage with no work ethic.

On February 29, 2008, Rogers was traded to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Leigh Bodden and a 2008 3rd round pick Andre Fluellen. The Browns run a 3-4 defense, as opposed to the 4-3 defense Rogers played in for Detroit, and Rogers became the Browns' 3-4 nose tackle. In 2008, Rogers finished with 76 tackles (61 solo), 4.5 sacks, and 4 pass deflections in 16 games and was selected as a Pro Bowl reserve.

Eric Mangini comes from a different coaching tree than Browns President Mike Holmgren and G.M. Tom Heckert. For the most part, it appeared the three men were able to work in harmony despite their different histories.

In an interview with the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, however, Heckert hints at the problems that can happen when a coach and his front office aren’t on the same page.

The Browns traded for Jayme Mitchell from the Vikings in October, but Mitchell never played a single snap for the defense. Heckert called that “bizarre.”

“He was by far our best pass rusher and never got on the field, so I can’t answer that one,” Heckert told Tony Grossi. “Eric watched him [on tape prior to the trade] and Eric liked him. So I don’t know what happened after that. . . . We thought he could really rush the passer.”

Translation: We made a promising trade, but Mangini didn’t want to play him. Mitchell is now an unrestricted free agent. Heckert also said Mangini lobbied to trade running back Jerome Harrison. Heckert admitted Harrison was acting like he didn’t want to be on the team, but it hurt the team’s depth.

“Once Eric wanted us to get rid of Jerome, that’s when it started [going bad],” Heckert said. “Once you get rid of that guy then it’s just tough to find guys.”

After the season, Holmgren and Heckert went about finding a new coach that will presumably have less influence on personnel moves.
