1991 Bills lost the Super Bowl

1992 Bills lost the Super Bowl

1993 Bills went 7-9 no playoffs

1994 Chargers went 9-7 no playoffs

1995 Steelers went 10-6 lost in Division round

1996 Patriots went 10-6 lost in Division round

1997 Packers went 11-5 lost in Wild Card round

1998 Falcons went 5-11 no playoffs

1999 Titans went 13-3 lost in Division round

2000 Giants went 7-9 no playoffs

2001 Rams went 7-9 no playoffs

2002 Raiders went 4-12 no playoffs

2003 Panthers went 7-9 no playoffs

2004 Eagles 6-10 no playoffs

2005 Seahawks 9-7 lost Division round

2006 Bears 7-9 no playoffs

2007 Patriots 11-5 but missed playoffs

2008 Cardinals 10-6 lost Division round

2009 Colts 10-6 lost in Wild card round

2010 Steelers ???

As you can see, since the Bills lost 4 Super Bowls in a row, no Super Bowl losing team has even so much as made a return to a conference title game. Half of them didn't even make the playoffs the following year.

The only teams in history to have won the Super Bowl one year after losing a Super Bowl were the 1972 Dolphins who lost to the Cowboys in 1971, and those same 1971 Cowboys who lost the 1970 Super Bowl to the Colts.

Also, the only other teams in history to return to a Super Bowl after losing one are the 1973-1974 Vikings, the 1986-1987 Broncos, and of course those Bills teams of 90-91-92-93. Of course, these teams all lost in their followup attempts.

Reply to Fate Of Super Bowl Loser on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 16:22:51 GMT

Gipper if I could piggyback on your thread. There always seems to be a team that pops up and surprises everyone. Except for '07 those team seem to come from the NFC south. Let me get this right. The lock-out ends, camp opens, the season is about to get underway. Fans around the world start to follow their teams a little closer, do some research about their teams and others, check a few sites the may haven't been to in a while look to the past and the future. Generally getting excited about football. While all this is happening you decide " Hey, I'm a steeler fan but it's time for me to go on a Browns forum and act like an A-hole". Truly sad.
Just curious, when did this thread deal at all with the Browns?

I may post 100 basically generic football statistic topics, and of that 100, maybe 2-3 may show some data that isn't on the whole favorable to the Steelers. Yet, in their myopia, it is only these 1 or 2 that Steeler fans get their bowels in a uproar for.

Before last season I posted this very same post, only then it dealt with the defending champion Saints, and the Super Bowl loser Indianapolis Colts.

Were Steeler fans indignant that I listed a post that didn't put the future of the Indianapolis Colts in a favorable light?

What is it about "facts" that gets them all upset?

When I list the facts of the records of various franchises in "Super Bowls" I don't seem to get any negative reaction from them, yet when I list the facts of the total football titles won by various cities since 1920 they want to eat their shorts over the fact that I actually include titles won by defunct Cleveland area teams and all the titles won by the Browns (and all I am actually doing is recreating the list from the likes of pro-football-reference, wikipedia or the hall of fame website.

"The Steelers are old" line is false. The entire offense is young. Franchise QB is 28. 3 best WR's and top 3 RB's are all under 25. The entire O-line is under 30. On defense they have two 1st round picks at DE that are under 25. At LB they have 5 talented players under 26. In the secondary they have 5 guys who will make the roster that are under 27. Sure Ward, Farrior, Smith, and Keisel are old, but all of their replacements are on the roster right now. The Steelers are a Sb contender for the next 5 years at least.

Silverback

Reply to Fate Of Super Bowl Loser on Sat, 06 Aug 2011 22:45:09 GMT

FATE OF THE CLEVELAND BROWNS SINCE 1990:
