Really?? Your comparing Troy Polamalu to Taylor Mays? Or even Roy Williams.. HAHA OK

Yes i agree against a number 1 WR your Strong Safety ussually will get exposed, but they have to have coveage skills. Troy is a ball hawk, so saying he just cant cover is a joke in itself. A SS lined up with a TE, RB over over the top coverage on a WR is what they hare know for.

Considering alot of teams have 4 and 5 wrs set I think it is a safe bet they need to be able to cover some one.Offenses are inclined to attack with up to five wide receivers, confusing with constant shifts and multiple formations. Safeties have moved to the forefront as defenses fight back.

At times, they still roam remote regions of the field like baseball center fielders. But they also must be football transformers, frequently asked to match up with quick slot receivers and cover them like cornerbacks or attack the line and stuff the run like linebackers or rush the quarterback on blitzes.

Star safeties such as Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ed Reed of the Baltimore Ravens have met the challenge, consistently making big plays all over the field and forcing offenses to identify their whereabouts at all times. So it's no surprise they are ranked No. 1 (Polamalu) and No. 2 (Reed) on USA TODAY's list of the best in the business. There are other standouts and other up-and-comers at the position. But with the skill set required to stand out on the back end, they aren't in abundance.

WRREBEL

Reply to Taylor Mays To Bengals on Sun, 28 Aug 2011 15:38:11 GMT

@<bdi>wrrebel</bdi> said:

Stop taking things so literally, "pocketing" does not mean it's going straight into Lerner's pocket, you dimwitted xxxxer. And just because I listed heated seats, it doesn't mean the millions are being dumped straight into that. It's the amenities I was referring to, you dullard. The game-day experience. The stuff that makes the casual fan want to come back. The parking officials, the official tailgating areas, the pre-game festivities and whatnot, that's where the money saved on dumb contracts goes.

Put it this way, by us not signing Plaxico Burress or Keyshawn Johnson or whoever the xxxx you wanted us to sign, there will be more money available to spend on hiring Elton John to sing the Star Spangled Banner in a speckled unitard, just like you've imagined in your wettest of dreams.

Do you see where I'm going with this? Lerner doesn't put on the whole show every Sunday. He's not in his basement farting around with pyrotechnics for the pre-game. He's not cleaning the stadium after it's been trashed by 80,000 people for 5 hours. He's not running the scoreboard or showing people where to park. He's paying for that to be done.

The more money that's saved on useless contracts now, the more money there is to be spent on making the game-day experience an unforgettable thing. The more unforgettable the game-day experience, the more likely it is that the fans will want to come back. The more that fans come back, the more money is spent on tickets, concessions, and paraphernalia. The more money that's made from tickets, concessions, and paraphernalia, the more money there is to pay Holmgren and Heckert to continue striking gold in drafts and fill our team.

And then, when we're only a piece or two away, you'll see your giant contracts and you'll cream so hard you go cross-eyed.

It's not a hard concept to grasp. Believe me, just because you've taken a personal finance class or two and you can copy and paste articles from years ago doesn't mean you're qualified to run the team.

Tim Couch Pulls Out
