Jabaal Sheard was moved to left end in Sunday's win over the Colts.

Both Sheard and Jayme Mitchell like to play on the left side, but Mitchell moved to the right yesterday and it paid dividends. Sheard was everywhere, recording his first sack, first forced fumble and first fumble recovery. He also stuffed Delone Carter for a big five-yard loss that forced a field goal in the third quarter.

Reply to Rookie Sheard Was Also A Brilliant Draft Pick on Wed, 21 Sep 2011 05:19:24 GMT

@<bdi>jnuh</bdi> said:

I hope you aren't taking my statement as me jumping the gun. By no means am I ready to call him a bust even if he ran off a string of say 5 bad games. He is a rookie with limited off season activities to get him up to speed. I am just simply stating I haven't seen much of him as a pro to make me a believer and I did not follow him in college at all. I wouldn't even call him a bust after the season unless he was absolutely brutal. With that being said though I also won't call him the savior at DE after one good game ... or a string of 5 or 6 good games.

no...i was kind of agreeing with you in that you said you'd wait to pass judgment after getting some more games under his belt. my comment was a general observation of this board....everyone either sucks or is a beast based on what they did last week.

for instance...robo has no catches in 2....two games.....so he must suck. its very black and white in a grey world with many on here.

choco

Reply to Rookie Sheard Was Also A Brilliant Draft Pick on Tue, 20 Sep 2011 21:03:01 GMT

heckertt is doing a hell of a job. love the draft since he's been here.

I'm amazed the Browns got him...

Sheard finished his Pitt career with 142 tackles (80 solo) in 45 games. He also racked up 19.5 sacks (18 solo), 35.5 tackles for loss, 16 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, and 38 quarterback hurries. Generally speaking,

Sheard has impressive speed in every direction — he's obviously quick around the edge in pass rush situations, but what makes him a complete end is his lateral agility and ability to back off into coverage and to catch up to downfield runners. Especially quick after he turns past the tackle and is closing in on the ballcarrier. Uses well-developed inside-out and outside-in moves at the line to gain the edge at the start of the play. Closes in well out of a wide set and doesn't take too long getting around the edge; there isn't a lot of wasted motion in his game. Has a decent rip move to help him disrupt, though he could be more consistent with this. Determined player who plays from snap to whistle, even when he's originally boxed out by a block.

Big improvement from game one to game two. Sheard was over running plays badly against the Bengals, creating big holes for Benson to run through. Kid had a nice game Sunday, and maybe Shurmur and Jauron will be smart enough to not try pounding square pegs into round holes. If Sheard plays better on the left side, let him play there.

hoorta

Reply to Rookie Sheard Was Also A Brilliant Draft Pick on Mon, 19 Sep 2011 18:33:58 GMT

I'm amazed the Browns got him...
