You know it couldn't be helped, it sucks, but kinda stupid, and everybody else is laughing....

Or, like when you walk down a set of dark, frozen stairs outside a building, at night, all alone, and you slip and fall and you just get up and pretend that

you didn't badly bruise or fracture your ribs, even though nobody saw you fall? A whole lot stupid. You aren't smart enough to fool yourself...

Or... like when you watch somebody steal a candy bar from a candy machine, and you decide to steal one too after he leaves, but you get caught, and you pretend

it was yours all along and make dumbass excuses and say it was the other guy? and you pretend everything is cool ? Kinda wimpy, AND stupid, AND screwed up.
