He is exactly what we need on this offense, someone that can get over the top very fast, demanding that the defense play the whole field rather than just pinning back their ears and taking shots at us on the 4-5 yard patterns while stuffing the run. With the added bonus of making the offense 3 dimensional it gives us ammunition to pick up a very good player at LB or DE, taking our defense that much closer to being a really good one

With a good speed receiver (or any real receiver threat) our o-line magically looks better all over, while our running backs actually get to the line of scrimmage before seeing contact, making them look better. and suddenly Colt has more time to throw to our now more open receivers, who are now getting YAC because the D isn't just sitting on the short routes waiting for their next victim.

I hate the idea of picking a RB in the first simply because it does not make the defenses change the way they play us, it just invites the defense in for more stuffing the run and taking shots at the short routes. And getting Colt III at #4 is just a waste when we already have a mobile BIG12 shotgun QB who put up great looking numbers in college, that we happened to pick up in the 3rd and is cheap as hell to play.

nunboy

Reply to The Browns Need ...
i love the game, am intense and desire to always win.

does this mean i can play football? Choco

But coaching an elite talent who doesn't give a frak, like Edwards, and coaching

another elite talent who has that fire, the intense desire to win, and LOVES the game......

coaching can't make up the difference.

In fact, I'd say that the player with the desire and intensity can often be far more productive

even with less physical talent.

It's a very rough game of emotion. Without that emotion, you have a Cluckett. A warren.

Kosar wasn't an elite physical talent, @@.....

but his intensity, work ethic, and drive to win, and his qb intelligence made him a great one for the Browns.

BTW, I heard Bernie Kosar on the radio the other day - he was laughing about his forty time. He said it was

5.2... in the thirty.... He said his time with the ten yard dash was pretty darn good though.... but after that

he got winded.... LOL

Richardson IS a can't miss talent... sorry but it IS FACT. When you have someone who totes the rock the way he totes it, it don't matter who you're running it against- he's gonna win. The kid has VISION, SPEED, STRENGTH, ELUSIVENESS, CATCHING ABILITY, AND HE'S GOT LOW MILEAGE!!! You can't ask for anything better.. Oh wait, I forgot he's under 6 foot tall! That's bad you might say, well technically, no it isn't! He shorter and harder to find behind a Big OL. By the time a defense recognizes he has the ball it'll be too little to late and he'll be long gone. He gonna be better than even Ray Rice. Ravens have the formula, Rice and Williams. Well, if we play our cards right we'll 1up them by marching out Richardson and Hillis- and if that happens...LOOK OUT!

He reminds me of a ray rice type of back. Smaller quick and runs with power, but I agree with most of the posters on here that I don't see the browns taking him with the 4th. I think it'd be awesome if he lasted till the 22nd pick tho.

slimdawg

Reply to The Browns Need ...
Lloyd did pretty well with the Rams, with people like Kellen Clemens, his stats were not so bad. almost 1000 yards recieving playing with the Broncos (4 games 4 starts) and the Rams (11 games 10 starts) passing games is solid production.

I actually want to 49ers to try and get him.
It's better to be smart and and patient than bashful and naive. We need to be smart with our picks, and if we don't get the player we feel best represents the value of the spot, we should trade down and get more picks rather than picking a player (who may not even be worth it), just cause.

I totally agree on your first two points, but Alshon is easily the number two WR on the board behind Blackmon. Talent wise, he's probably even ahead of Blackmon, but Blackmon is more polished and closer to a "sure thing".

Wright/Floyd are above Jeffery only because Sourh Carolina struggled with QB's this season, which ultimately affected Alshon. Had Alshon been able to come out earlier, you would have seen him as an easy top 10 pick. But he gained weight in the offseason and then Steven Garcia decided to be garbage. His numbers aren't a fair representative of his stats because not only did he have a bad quarterback, he had to compete with future Heisman winner Marcus Lattimore and was in Spurrier's Cock N' Fire offense that featured more bubble screens to slot guys than passes to Alshon. He truly was their big play receiver and that's all he was used for.

These top corners everybody is drooling over are the very same corners Alshon beat week in and week out. His highlight reel has them looking like high schoolers. Floyd/Blackmon/Wright can't say that. They didn't play the same quality of defenses that Alshon has succeeded against.

He's got the most talent and upside of any receiver this draft, he's just not as polished as the rest. He is the true downfield threat we've all been asking for for years. He'd be a steal if he were there at 22, but I can guarantee he won't be.

I'm sorry I know that Braylon hasn't played to his potential and was cut by the 9ers. But you can't call him a bust as a draft pick by the Browns for what he does after he leaves the team. Maybe he can catch on with the Omaha team of the UFL.

The Gipper

Reply to The Browns Need ...
Really?! He is the very definition of a bust. He had one good season with over 1200 yards receiving and 16 (not 17) touchdowns. What did he do the very next year? he caught 3 TDs while dropping virtually everything thrown his way. Anyone would take 17 TDs and 17 drops. But you can't win with 3 TDs and 17+ drops. The guy was a head case. He always had the talent, but he just wasn't mentally tough. One good season in 5 years as a 3rd overall pick is a big fat BUST!

The reason he is a bust is because that one season evidenced that he indeed had the talent to produce like a superstar....but he failed to develop that obvious talent and to perform on a consistent basis. I mean, 2 other teams since the Browns have recognized the talent and had hope it would come to fruition, but the other crap that comes with Braylon made them decide he wasn't worth trying to squeeze his lost potential out of him. For the third overall pick of the draft, that constitutes a major bust. I mean, Joe Thomas, take just a year or two after Braylon, also the 3rd overall pick lived up to what a 3rd overall pick should be. Braylon clearly hasn't.

The Gipper

Reply to The Browns Need ...
1) Edwards was cut this year by the 49ers - and they still need a WR opposite Lobsterbush. That's how bad Edwards is (and always was, really) - he was signed to fill a need that the team still has, but was so putrid they cut him.

2) Richardson at 4 is insane. Given Joe Thomas, Kalil at 4 to Cleveland is also insane. Neither will happen.

3) Jeffrey isn't anywhere near Blackmon - Wright/Floyd are both above Jeffrey on all draft boards. I'm also not against Sanu in the second if we go RT at 22 [eg, if DeCastro or Adams(OSU) or Martin slip] after RG3 at 4. Randle (LSU) is right there with Jeffrey/Sanu. Yes, that Mike Adams - he's t20 on most boards after dominating the Senior Bowl, t15 on some.

Unsympathetic

Reply to The Browns Need ...
Did you just say Brian Robiskie has tons of talent? He was a second round pick for the Browns and was a huge reach for need.

you mean the most polished NFL ready receiver to come out that year? yeah that guy.....

notice how no one else jumped that comment? try to figure out why that is....

choco

Reply to The Browns Need ...
lol @ people comparing Richardson to Peterson.

Aside from their Adonis-like physiques, their talent level is nowhere near the same. Richardson--while less injury prone-- is nowhere near as explosive and quick to cut like Peterson. No one is. Peterson is just much more of a freak. Simple as that.

This

While I think Richardson will be a good RB, he likely won't be as good as Peterson. As you said, he just doesn't have the talent Peterson does, and spending a top 4 pick will be a huge waste for the Browns. Hell, Mark Ingram, first RB taken last year was IMO a wasted pick (28th overall) by New Orleans last draft. While not as talented as Richardson, didn't fare to well behind New Orleans dominant Oline. While the Cowboys with a 3rd got a far more productive back in Murray. That shows that a first isn't necessary for a RB, quailty RBs can be found anywhere in the draft.

Jimmy H
