The only good that came out of that season was Marty coming in, and going back to the ABCs of running the football, and finding out about Earnest Byner.
Here is trivia all about Quarterbacks and the draft. Try your hand. I would rate this about a 4.5 out of 5 on the difficulty scale:

Answers:

1. Yes, 1983 lived up to its reputation as the Year of the QB. That is the only year, so far, in which 3 QBs drafted that year have made the HOF (Elway, Marino, Kelly..remember when they said 1999 could rival it?)

In history, there have been only 4 other years in which as many as 2 QBs drafted those years went into the HOF. Give those years. (and for bonuses, name the QBs)

1944 Otto Graham (by the Lions) and Bob Waterfield

1948 Bobby Layne and Y.A. Tittle

1949 Norm Van Brocklin and George Blanda

1957 Len Dawson and Sonny Jurgenson (1957 was also the year that Paul Hornung was drafted...who was listed as a QB/HB in college, but he played little if any QB in the NFL)

Other than 1983 no two HOF QBs have been drafted the same year. 2004 looks like it may have a chance.

2. Which college or colleges have had the most Hall of Fame QBs come from that/those schools?

Alabama, 2 with Namath and Bart Starr

Purdue, 2 with Dawson and Bob Griese

UCLA, 2 with Waterfield and Troy Aikman

Oregon, 2 with Dan Fouts and Van Brocklin

Michigan will join this group when Tom Brady goes in as they also have Benny Friedman.

If by some freak of nature either Vinny Testaverde or Bernie Kosar made it then Miami would have 2.

3. Which single college has had the most QBs taken as the #1 overall selection of the NFL or AFL draft?

That would be Stanford with Bobby Garrett #1 overall by the Cleveland Browns in 1954, Jim Plunkett #1 overall by the Patriots in 1971, and John Elway #1 overall by the Colts in 1983.

And by all accounts they are going to add to their lead in this category with the selection of Andrew Luck.

4. In history there is one team that has on 4 occasions selected a QB with the first overall selection of the draft. Name the team and the QBs.

The Colts have taken in their history 4 QBs with the first overall pick including George Shaw, John Elway, Jeff George, and Payton Manning....and of course it all seems probable that they too will add to their lead in this category when they take Andrew Luck. (They could still add to this if they take RGIII)

How serendipitous that the answers to Qs 3 and 4 would fall in line together this year.

5. There are two other teams which on 3 occasions have taken a QB with the first overall selection of the NFL/AFL draft. Name the team (and the QBs if you can)

Rams have taken: Billy Wade, Terry Baker, and Sam Bradford

Patriots have taken: Jack Concannon (AFL draft), Jim Plunkett, Drew Bledsoe

FYI, the Browns have done this twice with Bobby Garrett and Tim Couch

6. Since WWII what is the longest period of time in number of years in which a Quarterback was NOT selected as the overall #1 pick on the draft? Give the number of years and roughly the era in which that occurred.

The longest period is 6 years, 1976-1982 inclusive. In 1975 Steve Bartkowski was taken with the first overall pick and no QB was selected #1 overall again until John Elway in 1983. That is the longest stretch since 1945.

7. Since 1950 only 3 QBs have been selected in the Top 5 picks of the NFL draft that did not come from what are considered today as FBS schools. Name the three QBs and their schools.

(hint: Terry Bradshaw's La. Tech IS an FBS school)

1953 Ted Marchibroda taken by the Steelers out of Detroit Mercy College

1971 Dan Pastorini taken by the Oilers out of Santa Clara College

1995 Steve McNair taken by the Titans/Oilers out of Alcorn A&M

Every other QB taken in the top 5 have been from what are today FBS schools.

8. The NFL draft has now been conducted for 76 years. In how many of these years has an Offensive "Skill" player...QB, RB, WR, TE been the overall #1 pick? (margin of error: 2)

Of the 76, 50 have been offensive skill players....or 65.789%!

9. Since 1950 the Cleveland Browns have selected 43 QBs in the NFL draft. There are 5 colleges from which the Browns have selected 2 QBs each. Name those 5 schools.

Kentucky: Tim Couch 1999 and Rick Norton 1966

Iowa: Mike Cilek 1970 and Ken Ploen 1957

Duke: Bob Brodhead 1958 and Steve Slayden 1988

Toledo: Dan Simmell 1965 and Gene Swick 1976

Purdue: Mike Phipps 1970 and Craig Nagel 1976

10. Of those 43 QBs selected, what percentage of them never played a down for the Cleveland Browns? (margin of error 2 pts.)

Nineteen of the 43 or 44% never played a down for the Browns. And of the remaining 24, 2 played in only 1 game, 1 played in only 2 games, 1 played in only 3 games, 1 played in only 4 games, and 1 played in only 5 games. None of these as starters. Those 6 that had a cup of coffee combined only threw for a total of 191 passing yards. So, with those 6 and the other 19 who never played a down, 58% of all Browns QB draftees accomplished literally nothing for the team.

11. The Browns have drafted QBs from 5 different colleges located in Ohio. Name those 5 schools and any of the QBs that you can.

Ohio St.: John Borton. Miami, Oh.: Tom Dmitroff. Bowling Green: Mark Miller. Akron: Charlie Frye, and the two mentioned above from Toledo. As bad as Charlie Frye was, he was the most productive of all Ohio school QBs taken by the Browns.

12. Name all the QBs drafted by the Browns who, per pro-football-reference.com have served at least 2 years as the Browns "primary" starting QB. Note: there are 7 names. To get this answer correct you must give all 7 names.

Hint: Otto Graham was not "drafted" by the Browns.

Milt Plum, Jim Ninowski, Mike Phipps, Brian Sipe, Bernie Kosar, Tim Couch, Colt McCoy.

Note: guys like Paul McDonald and Brady Quinn only served one year as primary Browns QB.
