Well he was projected as a late first rounder and now people are saying he wont make it past Carolina, i can see why someone would roll the dice as someone previously mentioned his talent is rare and expectionally for a guy his size...I wouldnt take him in the top 10 but if we didnt have Taylor or Rubin and he was there at 22 you bet your ass i would draft him....

Even though he completely disappears on a lot of game tape? He'll need a very strong coach IMO.

Vagitron

Reply to Dontari Poe? on Fri, 02 Mar 2012 20:25:01 GMT

Nw220

Reply to Dontari Poe? on Fri, 02 Mar 2012 20:21:42 GMT

Homotron said:

Yea its predictions such as those (wont make it past Carolina at that make me wanna slap McShay/Mel Kiper in the face. They over analyze the combine because its easy to do (not watching film and looking at raw numbers), and because the media loves the combine.. They continually contradict themselves and just make the obvious observations. I respect Heckert a ton for the Haden pick (whether it works out or not) because he doesnt cave to outside pressure, I really like that he sticks to what he believes in and what he sees on film..

cribbs is the man

Reply to Dontari Poe? on Fri, 02 Mar 2012 19:58:07 GMT

@<bdi>nw220</bdi> said:

Workout wonder. There is a lot of game tape that shows in very clear fashion he isn't applying his obvious gifts on the field. I'll post a link from the Arkansas State game where he's on the ground more than he's standing or just getting consumed. Could he be good? Sure with the right coach but I don't think he deserves to be inside the top 15 like some are projecting and by some I mean the media. I'm not so sure he deserves to be in the first round.

4:23 into the clip---Poe gets taken completely out of the play while at DT in a 4-3 on a running play right through the middle

5:36 into the clip---Poe gets pancaked by the RG

6:26 into the clip---A State runs a trap/cross block right through Poe's gap and Poe takes himself out of the play by going after a back who didnt even have the ball

7:55 into the clip---Poe gets pancaked by the RG

9:43 into the clip---Poe gets stood up because he is too high.

10:26 into the clip---Head down, gets cut and is completely out of the run play.

EDIT: He just takes A LOT of plays off. If he's Coachable he has the tool to be elite but he's got some serious work to do. He'd have to end up with a team that has a strong veteran presence and coaches that will extract every last ounce out of him to show what he's capable of on the field.

Vagitron

Reply to Dontari Poe? on Thu, 01 Mar 2012 22:06:39 GMT

I never said we ought to trade up for him.
not to speak for TCPO, but i believe he based that upon the fact Poe's measurables at the Combine were off the charts.

350lbs and runs a 4.87 40?????

the pundits cover a lot of ground speculating, but a significantly stellar Combine performance from Poe was apparently quite unexpected and difficult to forecast...otherwise he would have been projected higher by them. .

Impressive, but would be a luxury pick for us (with Taylor and Rubin), he is more suited for a 3-4 (but with that kind of athleticism can play anything probably), and we'd likely have to trade up from 22 to get him... someone will get an athletic big man though..
