Curious as to why some Steeler trolls haven't piped up on their team's behalf.

The Elite Eight on Mon, 16 Apr 2012 13:43:41 GMT

My own votes:

Three of these clashes are razor thin:

1. I am going with the '76 Raiders over the Bears. Bearly. I think they had tougher competition and remember, they too only had one loss that year.

2. '72 Dolphins over '68 Jets. Jets are probably the weakest team in this 8 team field.

3. '48 Browns vs. '66 Packers. The greatest teams of two of the greatest dynasties. Both teams loaded with HOF players...and coaches. I think it comes down to the QBs, and I give Graham the very slight edge over Starr. And the final factor for me comes down to homerism.

Browns

4. '78 Steelers vs. '84 49ers. Same deal here: the best teams of two great dynasties. Razor thin choice. How to choose? A lot of things are evenly matched. HOF QBS, coaches, WRs.

I think it will have to come down to the defenses.

Steelers by historical standards are the better defense, though they did give up 31 points to Staubach in the SB. 49ers however tromped all over Dan Marino's team.

Still, I think the Steel Curtain has to prevail here.

The Gipper

Reply to The Greatest Team In History.
NORTH REGIONAL FINAL: 1985 Bears VS. 1976 Raiders '85 Bears by 17

SOUTH REGIONAL FINAL: 1968 New York Jets VS. 1972 Dolphins '72 Fins by 9.

EAST REGIONAL FINAL: 1948 Browns VS. 1966 Packers '66 Pack by 11.

WEST REGIONAL FINAL: 1978 Steelers VS. 1984 49ers Toughest match up... '84 49ers by 3... in double OT...

But result could very well depend on when and where it'd be played. In snow/ bad weather the Steelers' ground game and staunch run D would likely be decisive. Inside/ in fair weather the 49ers' superior air game and defensive backfield probably win the day...
