No. But you can see from my post that every year of those 15 years you are talking about at least 5 new teams have made the playoffs. I think that is the more pertinent statistic.

The Gipper

Reply to Strength Of Schedule on Mon, 16 Apr 2012 19:49:18 GMT

@<bdi>bringbackbrownie2</bdi> said:

It is very deceiving. I appreciate the importance of statistics in sports, but wins and losses from last year have no bearing on the 2012 season. Almost every team is vastly different with added draft picks and free agents. Plus injuries will affect teams next year too. Every year ESPN talks about who has an "easy" or "hard" schedule and they never turn out to be correct..

In 2010 these teams were in the playoffs but did not appear in 2011:

Seahawks, Jets, Colts, Eagles, Chiefs, Bears

These are the teams that replaced them in the playoffs:

Lions, 49ers, Giants, Broncos, Texans, Bengals.

So, yea, strength of schedule can be misleading. It is just a barometer. A team that went 11-5 last year could end up 5-11. God knows the Browns have done that a few times in history. And a 5-11 team can end up at 11-5. The Browns have done that too.

The Gipper

Reply to Strength Of Schedule on Mon, 16 Apr 2012 19:05:50 GMT

And riddle me this: Every year for like 16 years in a row now at least 5 playoffs teams from the year before failed to make the playoffs the following year. So with that in mind, which 5 minimum of these playoff teams from last year will NOT make the playoffs in the 2012 season?:

AFC:

Patriots

Ravens

Steelers

Bengals

Texans

Broncos

NFC:

Giants

Packers

Lions

Saints

Falcons

49ers

For my money I think the 5 teams that are in trouble to make it back are:

A. The Bengals....because historically they are always hot and cold. One year good, one year bad. What can I say, it is their pattern.

B. Ravens. Yep. Issues with Ray Rice being disgruntled and Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are not getting younger.

C. Saints. All this Bountygate and now Drew Brees's contract are distractions

D. Lions. They operate on the thin edge of the wedge, particulary with Matt Stafford's health.

E. Giants. Sorry, but everywhere they went last year they scraped by on the skin of their teeth.

F. Broncos. I am just not convinced that the Peyton Manning experiment will be a complete success.

Getting in who were not there last year: perhaps Cowboys and Eagles, plus either Cardinals or one of either the Bucs or Panthers.

In the AFC the Chargers could make it back, the Titans could, as could a scramble between Jets, Dolphins and Bills.

The Gipper

Reply to Strength Of Schedule on Mon, 16 Apr 2012 19:01:23 GMT

Weren't we supposed to have one of the easiest schedules last year (before the season) and it turned out to be one of the toughest?

Taco918

Reply to Strength Of Schedule on Mon, 16 Apr 2012 18:45:55 GMT

It is very deceiving.
