The narrative is being written. Cleveland Browns first-round pick Brandon Weeden had "the look of a No. 1 quarterback" according to The Plain Dealer at Tuesday's minicamp. Weeden is the one meeting with the media after practice. Colt McCoy is an afterthought.

Weeden is being sold. The other options Cleveland had at quarterback this offseason are being discredited. Veteran beat writer Tony Grossi reports that the Browns only pursued Robert Griffin III "enough to say that they tried." Griffin was viewed as "too small" and "eager to show how fast he was."

The Browns didn't like Matt Flynn either: "No bigger than McCoy with a similarly popgun arm. He was never seriously considered."

Or Ryan Tannehill: "His maturity as a quarterback and field leader were so lacking that he turned them off in personal interviews. He didn’t project as a leader."

Now, before everyone starts with the "this is just a Redskins fan trying to gloat" - because I'm really not - what do you all think of this? I know if the Browns and Skins positions were switched and Snyder tried to argue something like this, the entire fanbase would collectively call shenanigans on him.

I believe what they're saying about Flynn or Tannehill, you guys were never really interested in those two. But trying to pass off that they were never really interested in RG3 seems like a bit of revisionist history - especially with how much Holmgren pushed the "Shanahan and Fischer are buddies" angle right after the trade went down.

Personally, I like Weeden over Tannehill and Flynn also, so you got the next best QB available, and I really think that he'll do well for you. It'll definitely help having a talent like Richardson behind him.

But trying to say that you were never interested in RG3? I gotta raise a flag at that.

Reply to Per Nfl.com: Browns Viewed Rg3 As "too Small" on Tue, 12 Jun 2012 15:30:13 GMT

@<bdi>hoorta</bdi> said:

You are asking people on a browns message board for their opinions and when you get them you cry. We did want to draft RG3 but the price was too high, now we have Rich/Weed + a first round pick in 13 and 14 (A pretty damn good combo).
How am I the "biggest homer on the board"?

By saying that Cousins was a smart pick who is better than Grossman and could reap rewards down the line? Or by not falling in line with this board by saying the Skins did a good job with the draft?

And how is that more homer than "Weeden will be better than RG3/Weeden and Richardson=playoffs/etc? I'm not saying that's idiotic to say, because the Browns may very well make the playoffs this year. A couple things have to fall in place, but that's true for every team. It's just pretty homeristic to say that though.

And if you'd have actually read the thread, you'd realize that that isn't what it was about.
Hell it's the kettle calling the pot black. We got the fourth round pick back with a later trade. Effectively, we gave up a fifth and a seventh to move up one spot- in the first round. Sure beats Butch Davis giving up a second rounder to move up one spot to take Winslow. The Redskins gave up two firsts and a second to move up four.
And then, the Browns moved up one spot to draft Richardson. There's no problem with drafting Richardson, despite what Jim Brown says I think he'll be a very good player in the NFL. They likely did so because they felt someone else would jump up and draft him. So they gave up three draft picks---draft picks you needed---to move up one spot...only to find out that they weren't in any danger of losing Richardson.

So they give up a fourth, fifth and seventh round pick to move up one spot to get a guy that they could've drafted if they'd just stayed at four, because they panicked because they didn't want to get leapfrogged by Tampa Bay, I'm guessing. Even though Tampa didn't have the kind of ammo to move up.

Washington's gamble (and it was the biggest gamble in recent draft history) can't be evaluated for several years anyway, until we see what the Rams do with those extra first round picks. Speaking of the Rams- our Washington visitors should head over to a St Louis board, where the general consensus there is they robbed the Redskins blind.

If Weeden busts- he cost us one first round pick. If RGIII busts it costs the Redskins 3 first round picks plus a second. (The 'Skins fans think that could never, ever happen)

Finally- yes, DUH. If the Browns had been sitting at #2 they would have taken RGIII, no question.

hoorta

Reply to Per Nfl.com: Browns Viewed Rg3 As "too Small" on Fri, 08 Jun 2012 15:25:51 GMT

@<bdi>dick-mellon</bdi> said:

I thought CLE should have mortgaged the franchise to get that guy. . .

But looking at him at Redskins camp among the big guys makes him look small.

The problem with a mortgage like that is that it immediately becomes a negative equity situation and likely results in foreclosure.

No. Let the Skins mortgage their future.
I live in Columbia, MD dipshit. Ironic someone from Cleveland would talk shit about DC or Baltimore though.

So? You live in a suburb. Don't we all. And no, it isn't ironic that someone from Cleveland should talk shit about Baltimore and DC. Cleveland's problems primarily lie in a bad economy...which can potentially be corrected. When you get away from the tourist areas DC and Baltimore are just shitholes that no amount of money can rectify.

The Gipper

Reply to Per Nfl.com: Browns Viewed Rg3 As "too Small" on Fri, 08 Jun 2012 10:55:12 GMT

@<bdi>bills-n-browns-fan</bdi> said:

You're trying way too hard to plead your case. Tone it down a little.

People outside of Washington like the Redskins?

My girlfriend's father lives in DC and is a season ticket holder, and they've never done anything bad by me. I rooted for Washington and Green Bay in the dark years when the Browns were gone, and I still silently pull for them today. Unless they're playing Cleveland, obviously.

Tim Couch Pulls Out
