Massaquoi was one of four Browns to suffer injuries in the first half of Friday’s win over the Lions.

Defensive lineman Scott Paxson was helped to the sideline with a knee injury and defensive back Dimitri Patterson left the game with an ankle injury after colliding with teammate Ray Ventrone while trying to seal off an edge in run defense.

Tight end Jordan Cameron caught a 42-yard pass from McCoy, the team’s longest offensive play of the game, but landed with former Browns safety Sean Jones coming down on top of him. Cameron suffered an injured back and did not return to the game.

Also, Massaquoi claims he did not get a concussion.

BROWNS: Head coach Pat Shurmur said Mohamed Massaquoi suffered another concussion, which is why the wide receiver was pulled from the game after the first offensive snap. Massaquoi disputed that he had a concussion on Twitter. “No! Precautionary! Cant wait to get back to work!” Massaquoi wrote.

Arthroscopic Knee Surgery Recovery

Just had an arthroscopic knee surgery? Do not worry as the arthroscopic knee surgery recovery period is not a very long one and keeping a few important points in mind, one can surely go through the recovery with little trouble.

Getting a surgery done is bad, but what is probably worse is the recovery period after the surgery. This is especially in case of surgeries on the knees. One tends to get frustrated at times and is also irritated because of the immobility factor which comes post surgery. But one must be patient and in fact, take extra care during the recovery period to ensure a smooth and speedy healing.

Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

One of the modern methods of operating knee joints is arthroscopy. An arthroscopic knee surgery is performed with the help of a tiny camera called Arthroscope, which is inserted into the knee joint with the help of small insertions on the skin. The camera gives the surgeon a proper and clear picture of the internal areas of the knee, helping the surgeon in performing the surgery more accurately. The fact that there is less work on the tissues involved, makes the recovery time lesser than that for an open knee surgery.

Taking Care in the Recovery Period

The healing procedure starts as soon as the patient is taken out of the operating room to the recovery room. From here on, there are various aspects the patient needs to be careful about, to ensure a quick recovery.

Immediately after Operation

The surgery is carried out with a general anesthesia. Don't rush into waking up once the effect of the anesthesia is gone as one should not move the legs too much. Take your time and whenever possible, have water or juice before eating anything. The surgeon would ideally ask you to spend 2 to 3 hours in the recovery room after which you would be sent home.

Swelling on the Knees

The recovery period is generally 2 to 4 weeks, depending upon each individual case. During the initial recovery period, swelling on the wound is a very common problem faced by many patients. Anti-inflammatory medicines can be taken (unless you have gastric irritation) for the purpose of reducing this swelling. Applying an ice pack on the swelling can also reduce the inflammation.

Taking Care of the Wound

After the surgery is carried out, the orthopedic surgeon applies a bandage over the wound to protect it from getting wet. One must take care that the bandage does not get wet. For this purpose, it is advised to cover the wound properly while taking a shower or visiting the toilet. You will also have to dress the wound periodically as advised by your doctor. Make sure that while doing this, you do not moisten the area around the insertions in any way.

Use of External Support

Most patients do not need any support for walking. They are able to walk without being assisted by anyone or anything. In spite of this, your orthopedist may suggest that, initially you use either a walker, crutches or a stick for walking. Ensure you do the same as it is not advisable to put a lot of weight on the knees for the initial period, at least. As you go further into the recovery process, you can start walking without any aid.

Exercises That Aid Recovery

The best and the most trusted method of a quick recovery from an arthroscopic knee surgery would be physiotherapy. Post operation, every patient should start doing these exercises as soon as he/she can, so as to quicken the recovery process. You need to consult a physiotherapist for the same. Quite a few of these exercises are simple and can be done at home. Regular knee exercises help in rebuilding the lost strength in the knee muscles, ensuring quick recovery. At times these exercises need to be continued for a longer duration if the surgery was a major one or a lot of muscle power is lost. Quadriceps exercises for the knees are generally recommended by the physiotherapist.

Important Tips for Words of Caution

As stated earlier, the recovery time for an arthroscopic knee surgery is much lesser as compared to an open knee surgery. This however, does not imply that one must be careless during the recovery process. A few minor, but important points to keep in mind during the recovery period: •Rest is very important during the recovery period and you must ensure that you take adequate amount of rest during the recovery period. Do not strain your body too much and also avoid putting a lot of pressure on the knees.

•Place an ice pack on the wound for at least 3 to 4 times a day for around 20 minutes each time to reduce the swelling quickly. Be careful so as not to get the wounded area wet

•Antibiotics and narcotics as prescribed by the surgeon must be taken regularly so as to prevent any uncomfortable feeling or pain during the recovery period. If possible, get off the narcotics as soon as possible as it can lead to addiction and possible side-effects.

•Kindly call your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following- Increase in pain, soreness around the wound, fever, chills, increase in swelling or even any amount of increase in pain in your calf muscle during the recovery period.

•Start the recovery exercises as soon as possible after the surgery only after consulting your orthopedic surgeon and a physiotherapist.

•Visit your orthopedic whenever you have been asked to, for the follow-up appointments, so that he can monitor your recovery process and also suggest any changes if necessary

•In case of people doing heavy physical work, do not put your knees under strain for the initial period of 2-3 weeks. You can resume work later, only with the consent of your doctor.

•Avoid driving, exercising, swimming, playing outdoor games and jogging for the initial 2 weeks, at least. You can do the same only after an approval from your orthopedic surgeon.

Keeping all this mind, you can expect a quick and proper recovery from arthroscopic knee surgery. As is the case with all health related issues, it is best consulting your doctor for the right treatment and recovery process.

lol. Well Harrison is 34 and likely doesn't have a ton of gas remaining in the tank. Richardson on the other hand just entered the league so the Steelers would win out in that deal.
The Steelers have a bunch banged up as well. It's a part of football and it's still way early. It's not something I'd worry about unless the injuries being reported have the potential to linger. We already lost David Johnson for the year and he was having a great camp. We also have quite a few still on PUP and it's not just a bunch of nobodies. Start worrying if you have a bunch of people laid up for the final preseason game.

ditto that for the Bengals-

" Wharton, who signed with the Bengals as a free agent last March, was the most seriously hurt. He had to be carted off the field with right knee injury on Cincy’s third offensive snap of the game.

Wharton is likely lost for the year, a huge impact on the Bengals offensive line. confirmed, out for the year.

Clint Boling, who is entering his second year after three starts at right guard last season, saw fist team snaps after Wharton went down. Second-year player Otis Hudson, listed on the depth chart as Wharton’s backup, could also be called to action because in Wharton’s absence.

On the next series, Maualuga and Dunlap had to be helped off the field after both sustained right knee injuries.

Maualuga did not return, but walked around the sideline with assistance. He indicated after the game that he’ll be all right and would be ready to practice Sunday.

Dunlap, on the other hand, is possibly out for the rest of the preseason. It would mark the third straight camp that Dunlap has to contend with injuries.

Meanwhile, there are indications that Taylor Mays sustained a concussion. Mays was knocked out of the game with a head injury early in second quarter, which gave Jeromy Miles some extended playing time."

Personally, I think MoMass is done- can't stop getting his bell rung, and even when he's healthy, not that good. So we're down one starter so far for 6 weeks, Fujita for 4, if you want to call that a loss. It could be worse folks.

hoorta

Reply to Injury Update Thread on Tue, 14 Aug 2012 02:40:58 GMT

Lord I hope we don't ditch Colt yet.
The Steelers have a bunch banged up as well. It's a part of football and it's still way early. It's not something I'd worry about unless the injuries being reported have the potential to linger. We already lost David Johnson for the year and he was having a great camp.
Truly a sad day when the local Steeler fan is the voice of reason.

Dste Ace

Reply to Injury Update Thread on Mon, 13 Aug 2012 18:13:51 GMT

@<bdi>1-more-season</bdi> said:

15 players still not practicing 3 days after 1st exhibition. That's bad.

Cleveland Browns' Travis Benjamin, Dimitri Patterson, Scott Paxson and Jordan Cameron among 15 idle today

Cleveland Browns defensive back Dimitri Patterson was among 15 players that didn't practice today.

BEREA, Ohio -- Browns receiver Travis Benjamin, linebacker Scott Fujita, cornerback Dimitri Patterson, tight end Jordan Cameron and defensive tackle Scott Paxson were among 15 Browns players that didn't practice Sunday afternoon.

Many of the idle players were hurt during Friday night's preseason opener in Detroit.

In the span of nine plays in the second quarter, Paxson suffered a knee injury, Patterson sprained an ankle and Cameron hurt his back. The only one of the three outside today was Cameron, who rode the bike and watched from the sidelines.

Mohamed Massaquoi, who suffered a concussion in the game, defensive end Marcus Benard (undisclosed) and running back Trent Richardson (knee scope) were also not outside with the team.

But Richardson is back from Florida, where he underwent the arthroscopic surgery Thursday morning.

Shurmur declined to provide details on any of the injuries, and wouldn't say if any were serious.

"It’s hard to tell when those guys will all be back,'' he said. "They got nicked up in the game and we’ll see.''

Benjamin and Fujita didn't leave the game with injuries, but sat out today because of soreness from the game, Shurmur said.

Linebacker D'Qwell Jackson has been idle since last Tuesday with a sore shoulder, but it's nothing serious and mostly precautionary.

The starting linebacking corps today was rookie James-Michael Johnson and Kaluka Maiava on the outside and rookie L.J. Fort, an undrafted free agent from Northern Iowa in the middle.

Defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin (pelvis), who sat out the game, was back in action today. Starting next to him was third-round pick John Hughes, who also started in Detroit.

Others who didn't practice today include safety Usama Young (hamstring), defensive end Frostee Rucker, and tight end Ben Watson.

WADE WITH ONES: Seventh-round pick Trevin Wade of Arizona worked with the first-team as the nickel back today in the absence of Patterson.

"It’s a big role to fill and big shoes to fill, but I’m up to the challenge and that’s why I like the NFL,'' said Wade. " It’s a big challenge and I’m ready to do my part and do what I can.''

He said he feels like he's picking up the game quickly.

"I’m starting to read things better and know what’s coming and anticipate things better,'' he said.

Wade said he has plenty of experience playing over the slot receiver.

“My junior year I mostly guarded the slots in the nickel package, so I’m pretty comfortable with it,'' he said. "Coming in here it’s a different level. It’s a little faster. I just have to adjust better and play better technique and I should be fine.”

PoeticG

Reply to Injury Update Thread on Mon, 13 Aug 2012 01:55:33 GMT

Good to know Cameron was out on the work out bike.

Hunt Daddy

Reply to Injury Update Thread on Mon, 13 Aug 2012 01:14:52 GMT

Well all I gotta say is if he got a concussion on that hit, then he isn't going to last long this yr.

runyon27

Reply to Injury Update Thread on Mon, 13 Aug 2012 01:03:22 GMT

Yeah, they are saying Shurms is kind of pissed that he tweeted that.
