(even more than the 40s and WWII). The Assassinations of Kennedy/Kennedy/King, The Beatles, Vietnam, Woodstock, the counterculture, drugs, sex, rock n roll, Civil rights unrest, Psychedelia etc. etc. All that made it a vibrant time in our history. That decade was also vibrant in the history of the NFL. Following is a list of which current NFL teams were first formed by decade. Notice what happened in the 60s:

1920s...Bears, Cardinals, Packers, Giants

1930s...Lions, Eagles, Steelers, Rams, Redskins

1940s...Browns, 49ers

1950s...Colts

1960s...Raiders, Chargers, Broncos, Cowboys, Vikings, Chiefs, Saints, Falcons, Dolphins, Bengals, Titans/Oilers, Jets, Pats, Bills

1970s...Buccaneers, Seahawks

1980s...none

1990s...Jags, Panthers, Ravens

2000s...Texans

2010s...none yet (probably none likely...but who knows)

43.75% of the current NFL teams were formed in the 1960s.

And just as a note....though there were other franchises that came and went in the early years of the NFL, no NFL team has folded since 1952 when the Dallas Texans went belly up....and sort of morphed into the Baltimore Colts. No AFL team ever folded either.
