Bovine Excrement

Unfortunately, with the Cleveland Browns near this time of year you get those who claim: It is better to lose a game like this (last game of the season against Steelers) so as to enhance the Browns draft positioning.

I say that for the most part that is poppycock/balderdash/bovine excrement/horse hockey.....whatever polite word for bullshit you want to use. Here is the Browns draft record since 1999 in the first round:

1999 Tim Couch #1 overall

2000 Courtney Brown #1

2001 Gerard Warren #3

2002 William Green #16

2003 Jeff Faine #21

2004 Kellen Winslow #6

2005 Braylon Edwards #3

2006 Kameron Wimbley #13

2007 Joe Thomas #3

.... Brady Quinn #22

2008 no first rounder

2009 Alex Mack #21

2010 Joe Haden #7

2011 Phil Taylor #21

2012 Trent Richardson # 3

.... Brandon Weeden #22

There are 15 names on this list. Nearly half of these are bona fide busts....and it didn't matter where we got them from #1 to #22.

So, to me, I would prefer to see the Browns beat the Steelers than to hear BS like "Gee, if we lose we will be assured a pick in the top 7....but if we win we might drop down out of the top 10".

Well, screw that. I would rather have an Alex Mack or Phil Taylor at #21 than a Braylon Edwards or Gerard Warren at #3.

So, I am willing to sacrifice a few draft slots for a win over the Steelers. How about you?

Reply to Lose For Draft Position?
Good point but I was just referring to the difference between drafting 3rd and 2nd in 2012 and making the obvious point that one spot can make a huge difference.
Not much because we would've ended up with Richardson anyways in that case. We would've needed to be 2 spot higher in order to draft RG III

Mark O

Reply to Lose For Draft Position?
Bullshit. They will not do any better if they draft higher as well. They have shown they can draft a quality player in the second part of the draft....so it doesn't make any difference if they get a higher draft pick. In fact, I think they have usually done worse the higher they get.

I would disagree.... just checking the draft sites, since 2000 they've drafted in the first 20 picks 5 times and hit on all of them. Burress, Troy P., Ben, Timmons, Pouncy

Not a Steeler expert, but more often than not, they hit when in the top half of the draft.

But still... the Browns shouldn't blow this chance to sweep them.

Captain Cheesedick

Reply to Lose For Draft Position? What the hell would a win and feel good for a few hours do for you and the team. jack shit.
