OK, here is some more "traditional" football trivia.

This has been up a week, so I will just finish it off.

1. You may all be aware that the Steelers drafted 4 Hall of Fame players in their 1974 draft...the most HOFers taken by any team in any one year. However, three other times the same team drafted 3 eventuall Hall of Famers in a single draft.

Name those teams and the year.

1957 Browns with Jim Brown, Gene Hickerson, and Henry Jordan

1964 Cowboys with Mel Renfro, Bob Hayes, and Roger Staubach

1964 Broncos with Bob Brown, Paul Krause and Bob Hayes

The thing though is not one of those players chose to play for the AFL Broncos...they played in the NFL

2. Since that 1974 Steeler draft, which team or teams, if any, has drafted as many as two eventual Hall of Famers in the same year?

Since the Steelers drafted those 4 not a single team has drafted more than one HOFer in a year.

3. The NFL draft was reduced to 7 rounds beginning in like 1994. In the combined decades of the 1970s and 1980s only 1 player drafted below the 7th round (8th or higher) has ever been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Name that player.

(note: does not include any UDFAs that may have made it)

It was Richard Dent in the 8th round of the 1983 draft.

(note though that several UDFAs have made the HOF since 1970...Langer, Moon, Randle)

4. The Browns drafted Barkevious Mingo of LSU with the #6 overall pick in the draft. In draft history, three (3) other LSU players have been taken with the #6 overall pick. Name the three.

Hints: two are active, the other is in the HOF.

1948 Y.A. Tittle #6 pick

2007 LaRon Landry #6 pick

2011 Morris Claiborne #6 pick

5. Which player that was ever drafted by the Browns played in the most career games?

(note: that does not mean he played them or most of them for the Browns)

Jim Marshall played 282 games....very few for the Browns. Mostly with Vikings

6. Besides the name in Question #5, 8 other players drafted by the Browns appeared in 200 or more career games. Name as many of the 8 as you can.

(same note: that does not mean they played for the Browns, just drafted by them)

Clay Matthews 278 games

Frank Winters 231

Ernest Byner 211

Fred Cox 210

Rob Burnett 202

Anthony Pleasant 202

7. The Browns have chosen 3 people in their drafts in history from Ohio State that have made a Hall of Fame. Name the three people.

Paul Warfield PFHOF

Dick LeBeau PFHOF

John Havlicek Basketball HOF

8. Archie Griffin, the only 2 time Heisman winner, was drafted by the Bengals. Within a couple or three hundred yards state how many career rushing yards Archie gained in the NFL

Archie had 2808 rushing yards and 1607 receiving yards in 98 career games.

9. In which city was the very first NFL draft held, in 1936?

Philadelphia in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel

10. Which team used two first round draft picks.....on the same player.....who never played a down for them?

The Washington Redskins chose Cal Rossi with their first round pick in 1946....but....Rossi was still a junior and at that time was not eligible to be selected....so in doing so the Redskins wasted their 1946 first round pick.

Lo and behold, the 1947 draft came along and the Redskins chose.....Cal Rossi.

But, after having picked him twice, Rossi informed the Redskins that he would not be playing pro football...that he would enter a more lucrative career...and he went off to the business world (which at the time paid a lot more than football)

11. Who was the first African-American to be the #1 overall pick of the NFL draft?

Ernie Davis, 1962

12. Who was the #1 overall pick of the first combined AFL/NFL draft, in 1967?

Bubba Smith out of Michigan St.
