Interesting observation when one considers Campbell had a QB rating of over 84 during his play at Oakland in 2010 and 2011 and threw 19 TDs and 12 interceptions. Compared to Weeden, Campbell is Johnny Unitas. I think Campbell is going to very seriously challenge Weeden for the starting job. .

Assmunch

Reply to Brian Hoyer Is A Brown on Thu, 23 May 2013 09:31:05 GMT

Zombo said:

The Browns have added free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer and running back Brandon Jackson.

According to multiple reports, the Browns have added free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer and running back Brandon Jackson.

Hoyer was rumored to be among players that GM Mike Lombardi had an interest in during free agency but when he was tendered a second-round offer as a restricted free agent by the Cardinals, the Browns weren’t in the market as they did not have a second-round draft choice.

However, the Cardinals released Hoyer Monday and he agreed to a two-year contract with the Browns according to Adam Caplan of SiriusXM radio. The former Cleveland St. Ignatius quarterback and North Olmsted native played his college football atMichigan State. He signed with the Cardinals last season.

Hoyer (6-2, 215) was with the Patriots and has completed just 57 passes in four NFL seasons with two touchdowns and three interceptions. He was 30-of-53 for 330 yards last season with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Rob Chudzinski was asked specifically after Thursday’s practice if Hoyer might be added or if the Browns planned to go to training camp with Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell and Thaddeus Lewis as the team’s quarterbacks.

“I think all of that will remain to be seen,” Chudzinski said. “We are coaching these guys up right now. I feel good with this group with what they are doing and how they have progressed. We will just move along and keep going in the same direction. As you saw today Brandon was working with the first group. Jason (Campbell) has been working with the second group and Thaddeus (Lewis) has gotten reps with the third group. We will continue along that way, it’s just too early right now to be able to say anything. It wouldn’t be smart to name a starter and all those types of things that we have gone through before.”

Jackson was with the Browns the last two seasons and was an unrestricted free agent. He reportedly agreed to a one-year deal. Jackson was inactive for 13 games last season after missing his first season with the Browns after suffering a turf toe injury in the 2011 preseason.

Jackson (5-10, 216) is 27 years old and carried the ball eight times for 54 yards in two games. His longest run was a 25-yard run against the Steelers.

The Browns have not announced the signings as they will need to release two players to make room for Hoyer and Jackson.

Zombo

Reply to Brian Hoyer Is A Brown on Fri, 17 May 2013 16:20:44 GMT

The Browns massaged their roster Monday by waiving five players signed this spring and adding five that were in minicamp this past weekend as tryout players.

Defensive back Akeem Auguste, punter T.J. Conley, defensive lineman Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, defensive back Abdul Kanneh and linebacker Ausar Walcott were signed on Monday and will participate in the Organized Team Activities that begin Tuesday in Berea.

Defensive back Kevin Barnes, wide receiver Mike Edwards, defensive lineman Paipai Falemalu, punter Jake Schum and defensive back Ricky Tunstall. Were waived.

Conley spent training camp with the Jets in 2009 and 2010 after signed with them as an undrafted rookie in 2009. He was the Jets punter in 2011 and appeared in all 16 games. He punted 92 times for 3,926 yards (42.7 average) with 32 punts inside the 20-yard line. Conley spent training camp with the Minnesota Vikings in 2012. He will challenge Spencer Lanning for the vacant punting job.

Jean-Baptiste spent four weeks on the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad last season after being signed by the Ravens as an undrafted rookie.

August, Kanneh and Walcott are rookies. Auguste posted 133 career tackles at South Carolina while started 22 of 43 games.

Kanneh played two seasons at New Mexico Highlands University and intercepted nine passes, four of which he returned for touchdowns. He made 107 tackles.

Walcott made 22 starts in 45 games at Virginia and totaled 128 career tackles, 1.5 sacks, four passes defensed and one fumble recovery.

This signing has kind of over shadowed another signing that happened yesterday. B. Jackson was resigned to a one year deal. That means we have 7 RB on the roster right now. Makes me feel like our RB corps is going to be great after T. Richardson with the best sticking around.

Also does anyone have any idea of who was released in order to make these two signings?

I know there were four players released the other day.

Tim Couch Pulls Out

Reply to Brian Hoyer Is A Brown on Fri, 17 May 2013 15:29:32 GMT

@<bdi>harry-buffalo</bdi> said:

Yes, let's not focus on adding quality in the defensive secondary, let's just keep adding billions of running backs. Idiotic.

Assmunch
