He appeared in 1 SB, and also 5 NFC title games. Is he a HOF QB, or an also ran? How does he compare to other QBs that have fallen short

Here are the QBs who are NOT part of this discussion....why? Because they have won a Super Bowl:

Brady, Montana, Bradshaw, Elway, Aikman, Staubach, Roethlisberger, Starr, Warner, P. Manning, E. Manning, Plunkett, Young, Stabler, Unitas, Theisman, Griese, Simms, Dawson, Rodgers, Brees, Williams, Rypien, Brad Johnson, Dilfer, McMahon, Dawson, Namath, Hostetler, Simms, Favre, Flacco.

(though, you can suggest if he is more worthy than any of these guys

Also, not part of this discussion are these guys:

Jim Kelly

Dan Marino

Fran Tarkenton

Dan Fouts

Warren Moon

Sonny Jurgenson

as these guys are all in the HOF though they did not win a SB.

Plus any pre Super Bowl HOF QBs are not listed I am restricting my conversation to those who played post 1966 mainly. The following is a list of QBs who have either won at least 3 postseason games in that time, or who have played in at least 6.

The question is, which ones, if any, have better HOF credentials than Donovan McNabb?:

Jake Delhomme 5-3 postseason record 0-1 in SBs 1-1 in NFC title games

Craig Morton, 5-5 postseason, 0-2 in SBs, 2-1 in NFC/AFC title games (I will abbreviate here out)

Danny White 5-5, no SBs, 0-3

Mark Brunell 5-5, no SBs, 0-1

Steve McNair 5-5, 0-1 in SBs, 1-1

Ron Jaworski 4-4, 0-1, 1-0

Dan Pastorini, 3-2, no SB, 0-2

Boomer Esiason 3-2, 0-1 in SB, 1-0

Bernie Kosar 3-4, no SB, 0-3

Phillip Rivers 3-4, no SB, 0-1

Randall Cunningham 3-6, no SB, no conf. title game

Neil O'Donnell, 3-4, 0-1 in SB, 1-1

Drew Bledsoe, 3-3, 0-1 in SB, 1-0

Rich Gannon, 4-3, 0-1 in SB, 1-1

Tony Eason, 3-2, 0-1 in SB, 1-0

Stan Humphries, 3-3, 0-1 in SB, 1-0

Kerry Collins, 3-4, 0-1 in SB, 1-1

Mike Tomscak, 3-2, no SB, no Conf.tite game

Dave Kreig, 3-6, no SB, 0-1

Vince Ferragamo 3-3, 0-1 in SB, 1-1

Matt Hasselback 5-6, 0-1 in SB, 1-0

David Woodley, 3-2, 0-1 in SB, 1-0

Jay Schroeder, 3-2, no SB, 0-1

Ken Anderson, 2-4, 0-1 in SB, 1-0

Jake Plummer, 2-4, no SB, 0-1

Jeff Garcia, 2-4, no SB, no conf. title game

Billy Kilmer 2-5, 0-1 in SB, 1-0

Mark Sanchez, 4-2, no SB, 0-2

Reply to Also Ran Qbs? #mcnabb? on Thu, 01 Aug 2013 01:41:32 GMT

McNabb isn't getting into the Hall. Here are the QBs who so far have not been inducted into the HOF who have had the most productive careers. A few are obviously not eligible yet. These are the PFR career production numbers:

Favre 254

P. Manning 235

Brady 178

Ken Anderson 161

Brees 160

John Hadl 144

Vinny Testaverde 142

John Brodie 141

Dave Kreig 138

Donovan McNabb 138

Drew Bledsoe 137

Jim Hart 136

Boomer Esiason 135

Randall Cunningham 134

Roman Gabriel 132

Steve McNair 126

Rich Gannon 120

Mark Brunell 120

Phil Simms 118

Craig Morton 117

So, you can see where he fits on total career productivity. (Yes, for this, longevity helps some guys...like Vinny)

FYI, McNabb's productivity stats are actually better than the following: Bart Starr, Aikman, Jim Kelly, Van Brocklin, Staubach.

Another interesting note here: Ken Anderson is #2 on the list of most productive career players who are not in the HOF, yet who are eligible. Jim Marshall DE is #1.

I for one would probably advocate that Anderson is more HOF worthy than McNabb. Then there is Hadl, who actually won an AFL title.

The Gipper

Reply to Also Ran Qbs? #mcnabb? on Tue, 30 Jul 2013 17:50:57 GMT

Zombo said:
