So August is pretty important. Between Grossi, OBR, ABJ, etc., here's what I'm gathering...

1. Weeden has been really inconsistent but that doesn't mean "bad." He's just not the same improved QB on every play. I suppose that's to be expected but I have concerns that he is what he is... and the mental part of the game isn't his strong suit. He has amazing arm talent... kinda like Derek Anderson.

Grossi says the offense right now is "crisp like uncooked bacon." QB play is spotty.

2. However, it looks like we're going to field one of the NFL's better lines, all under contract for a long time after Mack is extended, and one of the top 5 RBs in the NFL. That's gotta count for something, even in a passing league. We should be able to run the football.

3. Speaking of RBs, I think the team REALLY loves Dion Lewis. Way more of a change of pace for T-Rich. Crazy quick, drawing comparisons to Eric Metcalf. Chorv could have fun with this kid and that doesn't bode well for Hardesty, dinged again. Too bad because I think a healthy Hardesty is a 4+, 1,000 yard back. He could start for New England. Well, or most good teams because they don't give a huge shit about running backs.

4. Shawn Lauvao is having a really nice camp, which is why there's no need to flip Greco to the right side. Pinkston gets time to round into playing shape. Faulk is expected to practice any day now before we find a way to stash him for next year. Gilkey's doing so-so. Point is, we're improved at guard and have strong depth there.

5. Now that defense... they're looking awesome. Chris Owens seems to be locking down the #2 CB spot in a bit of a surprise. He's just playing really, really well according to everybody. He was miscast as a slot and is a very legit #2 NFL cornerback. Could turn out to be a BRILLIANT piece of personnel work after passing on those 315 #2 corner types in free agency.

Also allows Skrine to play the slot which he does very well. McFadden has looked a bit rookie-ish, even in drills. Not having to start might be a great thing for him. He could be serious competition for Owens in 2014 and I expect we'll also add a corner with size.

6. Horton has some Teacher's Pets: Robertson has to be #1 because of the explosive speed, which reminds Horton of Daryl Washington. Expect to see him firing up the middle while other teams are concerned about our bevy of outside rushers. Horton talks more about Robertson than anybody else.

7. Tashaun Gipson was fitting into Horton's scheme really well before the tweak and concern about that position has waned... if Gipson stays healthy. I haven't heard a word about Slaughter and Bademosi needs work. Gipson's brief time off probably helps him.

But Horton seems to think Gipson is a legit starting FS with great instincts and athleticism. If we can field a healthy five-some of Haden, Ward, Gipson, Owens, and Skrine, we'll be strong there, allowing the best part of our team (front 7) to dominate.

8. So what is a team with the potential to run the ball really well, an attacking defense that rattles the pocket, and a shaky QB situation? The Vikings, basically. And that ain't enough. Weeden needs to pull his shit together or you're gonna see Brian Hoyer pass both guys at get the starting shot Lombardi thinks he deserves.

And then we draft T.J. Boyd!!

Reply to Training Camp News, August 1 (It's August!) on Sun, 11 Aug 2013 13:40:34 GMT

@<bdi>shep</bdi> said:

Aaron Rodgers currently has the fastest release in the history of the NFL, faster than Marino.
Source? Google only turned up debates... not only who has fastest, but also what the definition of "release" is... maybe that's the issue here as well. I've always understod it to be time from first move in throwing to ball leaves hand.

Observations, notes, quotes and some facts on Day 10 of Browns training camp …

* At the tail end of practice, starting right guard was carted off the field after turning an ankle in a one-on-one blocking drill against nose tackle Phil Taylor.

Coach Rob Chudzinski said he won’t know the extent of the injury until Tuesday. Teammate Jason Pinkston said he didn’t think it was severe and the Browns were just being cautious.

If Lauvao is held out of Thursday’s exhibition opener against St. Louis, Pinkston would be the likely replacement on the first team. He has been alternating at left and right guard all camp.

Pinkston lost his starting left guard spot last when he developed a blood clot that traveled from his leg to a lung and missed the final 10 games.

“I’m still getting there (to regaining his form),” Pinkston said. “I’ve been out of the game for like 6-7 months. It’s still gonna take some time to get used to moving my feet again, moving my hips.

Whether or not he starts in Lauvao’s place against the Rams, it will be a big night for Pinkston. He has not played in a game in FirstEnergy Stadium since Oct. 14.

* As expected, Trent Richardson was back working with the team after missing two practices because of a kick to the right shin he originally injured in May OTAs. Richardson did participate in some team drills, but was given a lighter work load than usual.

Afterwards, Chudzinski would not say if Richardson would play on Thursday. ESPN Cleveland reported Saturday that Richardson has been told he would be held out, per the precautionary plan the Browns have mapped out for him.

“We’re going to be smart,” the coach said. “We have a plan for him, in a general sense. We want him to work to get better and be out here on a daily basis.”

* The biggest revelation of Chudzinski’s first official depth chart was that Chris Ogbonnaya was listed as the first-team fullback ahead of incumbent Owen Marecic. Ogbonnaya, who said his weight fluctuates between 225 and 235 pounds, was used as the lead blocker in goal-line drills on Monday.

“I think it’s fun,” Ogbonnaya said. “It’s a great challenge and I’m trying to accept that.”

With the team’s cautious approach to Richardson and Montario Hardesty still out with a hamstring tendon injury, Ogbonnaya’s versatility is being appreciated by the coaching staff. Dion Lewis and Brandon Jackson shared the reps at tailback on Monday, but Ogbonnaya lined up in several spots required by the fullback.

Chudzinski said, “He’s a guy that can play multiple positions. Sometimes it’s hard to put those guys in two different spots. The thing about depth charts, they don’t always tell the story of roles. There’s a lot of roles on teams that you need that aren’t necessarily covered on a depth chart. A guy that appears sometimes as a third teamer on a depth chart is the first teamer in some sort of role in some situation for a game. Certainly, Oby is a very valuable part of what we’re doing.”

* In one-on-one passing drills, cornerbacks Joe Haden and Chris Owensgot the better of Josh Gordon and Greg Little.

* The Browns did a lot of work on goal line plays. In 14 plays originating inside the 10-yard line, the offense reached the end zone nine times – three through the air, including a reception by Marecic. On the last play, reserve safety Josh Aubrey made the defensive play of the drill, shooting around right end and tackling running back Miguel Maysonet short of the goal line.

* At the end of two-minute drills, the kickers each made field goals of 52 yards.

I'm thinking shitty musician/ internet troll tops the list. If you look at college degrees, offensive lineman are some of the smartest guys in football.

Where to start dissecting this nonsense? Shitty musician? Ah, credentials say otherwise, but really, thanks for playing. Maybe try again sometime? Give West Side Steve a holler, you guys likehim, he's played with me, you can get a reference form him.

Internet Troll? Not at all. While my posts indeed to piss Browns fans off, let's be honest, what really pisses people off about me is that much more often than anyone here, I am dead on. Well, perhaps #1 on the piss-off list is that I keep pounding it in way past the point of nosebleeds. This much, I agree with. I get it, it is bad enough that I am right all the time, but continually urinating on your pennant-of-annual-Brown-hope before it can ever dry out between pee-pee trips can alienate folks. I get it. I am going to not repeat this post again, although at the end of the year, you guys will again have to feast on it, since I will save it. Trust me, even not hearing it all year? LMAO, you will hear the echos as the team locks itself into last place.

But let me go on the record and tell you how I see it.

There was nothing wrong with the Browns OL last year. Skilled players are what enable an OL to rise to the top. When defenses have to cover many possibilities, the OL hs the edge and the DL gets tired and beat up. Most SBs in the past 20 years have been won with a high % of jorneymen, has-beens and second and third string OL players.

Our D will play too many downs because the O, just like last year will sputter and be a short dump and dink offense. Oh, don't get all worked up because early on, the Browns will have some success only because they don't have a rep for going verticle, but defenses will pass the word and this O will be as shitty as Shurmurs.

All 32 playbooks look the same. Skill players are what wear defenses out. We have nobody to threaten deep in any meaningful capacity.

Richardson is a good back, but not a great back, and he is the wrong fit for the Browns. Defenses will again jam the line and TR is going to get hit a lot at the line. He isn't built for that, and just like I told you

HIllis would be shit in his second year, TR is NOT going to have a good year running. You guys will scratch your balls in confusion wondering how this could happen with such a great new O plan, a great new line, and blah blah blah........... but the reason it will happen is because the Browns scare nobody deep. We aren't going to turn screen passes into 50 yard touchdowns too often. Richardson has been hurt twice, and pounding him up the middle isn't going to allow him to play healthy for the entire season.

Weeden takes too fucking long to get rid of the ball, so no matter what fucking plays you call, he is going to throw a lot of shit TOO EARLY. In regular season Chud may indeed call more downfield shit, and by doing so he will allow Weeden to get sacked more than ever before. You think Shurmur was a moron? You think he was devoid of knowing the team needed to get downfield? Good grief you guys can be fucking idiots.

So lets summarize okay? Then I won't have to explain why 3-12 might have been a stretch.

1)Nobody to threaten deep

2)Weeden holds the fucking ball too long, even longer than McCoy, Anderson, Frye, and Couch, He's gonna get killed.

3)The OL will get decimated. NO FIVE HOF OL can block 8-9 defensive players who know what is coming at them.

4) Richardson will be less productive this year than last, and there is no way he won't get fucked up, maybe for good! The guy the Steelers drafted will do better, TR needs a big fullback and WRs who can take pressure of the LOS.

Sorry man, but I see this the same way I saw it with Crennel, Shurmur, and now this latest Bozo. Our material is very, and I mean VERY low on the NFL totem pole. Be enthusiastic, but you cannot win games with shit. We have shit.

EmporerGhoolie
