I wanted to go somewhere for St. Patty's day and talked to a Tim and Ron, close friends of mine about the idea of going. They also wanted to go so we decided that the place we really wanted to go was Boston for various reasons. We also decided that driving would be the best option for us given the relative proximity and cost.

Other friends began to hear about our plan and wanted to come with, we said absolutely, the more the merrier. Frank heard we were going to do a St Patty's trip and wanted more details, after explaining to him our plans he decided he didn't want to go and did something else.

Kathi was committed to going but as we were making the decisions about how many cars to take and hotel rooms (some healthy debate I might add) she decided that instead of going to Boston we should go to Savannah Georgia (another hot St Patty's day spot). Although this was a good option, it was not what we wanted to do. The debate of where we were going began to distract from getting to Boston for St. Patty's day. It ended up as a simple solution...we were going to Boston for St. Patty's day to go to Savannah than you should go to Savannah, we are going to Boston. She did.

One of the other Boston goer's who had committed to going decided that 10 hrs in the car was just to long for a drive and wanted us all to fly instead of drive. He also did not end up coming.

Those who were left and eager to game plan for the St Patty's day trip to Boston, we had very different opinions on if we were going to rent cars and if so what kind, will we take our own and if so whose, and of course where is it exactly that we were going to stay.

Through those different opinions and everyone's connections and skill sets we were able to rent two brand new SUV's that got great gas mileage, get set up with a penthouse suite at a downtown hotel and we had an absolute blast celebrating St Patty's day in Boston.

All in all there were 16 people that came in and out of the discussion for the trip , 10 ended up going and there were times where everyone felt like we were going no where...once we solidified the group with people who wanted to drive to Boston for St Patty's day the debate and discussion turned out to be a big positive.

What the hell does this story have to do with the current Cleveland Browns coaching search?

St Pattys Day is the being a championship team

Boston is the championship

Driving is how we get there

Tim and Ron are Joe Banner and Lombardi

Frank is whatever coach didn't match up with us

Kathi is Chud

The 7 other friends are the Coaches who bring us a championship

It ONLY works if everyone is bought into being a championship team (St Patty's Day) where do they need to be to get there (Boston) and how are they getting there (Driving) . These are consistency in both philosophy and culture that everyone needs to be on board with. What you do to get there and once your there is a place where diversity of opinion, experiance and skill set can take the next level. The Browns do not need a "yes" man in that respect, but they do need someone that matches philosophy and culture. I liked Chud, but if he wanted to go to St. Patty's day in Savannah and the front office is going to Boston..see ya.

Some other not so true parallels to my story...

We tried to convince Brittany to go, she is smoking hot and did all kinds of crazy stuff in college...she decided to go to Philly.

Curt threw a hissy fit and told us he didn't even want to think about going once he found out Brittany was our first choice, which turned out great because he does stupid things when he has a say.

And at our first stop on the road trip a giant flag fell on Brandon, we should have left him there.

and oh yeah...

I promised to reimburse my friends .10 for every dollar they spent on gas if they front the cash at the pump...no one has asked it yet so I'm earning interest....
