Dodd Says He'll Refinance Countrywide Loans

Associated Press February 2, 2009

HARTFORD - Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd says he'll refinance two mortgages that he received through a VIP program from Countrywide Financial Corp.

Dodd told reporters in his Hartford office Monday that the mortgages for his homes in Washington and East Haddam, Conn. will be refinanced with a different company.

The chairman of the Senate Banking Committee says a third party will be involved in choosing the new bank.

Dodd has acknowledged receiving mortgages in 2003 through a VIP program at Countrywide, which was sold to Bank of America Corp. earlier this year and has been the focus of allegations that it gave favorable loan terms to lawmakers.

Dodd says he's moving the loans in part because he was wrongfully labeled a friend of Countrywide's former CEO, Angelo Mozilo. Dodd says he never sought special treatment.

Reply to Another Unfortunate Mistake on Tue, 03 Feb 2009 00:01:00 GMT

@<bdi>danamal</bdi> said:
If the man committed a crime toss him.

But you know as well as I do, Dan, this isn't the case.

Just look at the new Secretary of the Treasury and the nominated person for Secretary of Health.........both law breakers. Both criminals. Both tax scafflaws.

Both nominated by the vetting process of the new Messiah. How do you like this change? Do you feel any hope.

Chicopee John

Reply to Another Unfortunate Mistake on Mon, 02 Feb 2009 20:45:45 GMT

Sounds like a payoff was going on to stop an oversight commitee, he must be one of barney's boys.

Mr. T

Reply to Another Unfortunate Mistake on Mon, 02 Feb 2009 18:45:32 GMT

Looks like instead of Washington politics, he is bringing good old Chicago politics.
