Peyton Manning #1 overall

Andrew Luck #1 overall

Alex Smith #1 overall

Cam Newton #1 overall

Matt Ryan #3 overall (NFC title game QB prior year)

Phillip Rivers #4 overall

Joe Flacco #18 overall (SB QB prior year)

Aaron Rodgers #24 overall

Drew Brees #32 overall

Andy Dalton #35 overall

Colin Kaepernick #36 overall

Russell Wilson #75 overall

Nick Foles #88 overall

Tom Brady #199 overall

Optimal place, apparently to select a QB: #1-#4 overall, or early 2d round.

Well goody. So let's trade up. Both this year's first rounders and next year's first round along with our seconds and thirds.

Then we will have drafted a quarterback number one overall and are guaranteed a trip to the playoffs or Superbowl!

It all seems so simple, I don't know how I could have missed it.

Ah....both those are just the #1 overalls that did something in the last couple of playoffs. Still active #1 overall QBs who did not leave their team to playoffs:

Manning, smith and Brees making the playoffs with teams other than the teams that drafted them isn't an argument for their draft position, it's an argument for free agency.

Sure, but, Manning won a SB with the team that drafted him, Smith probably went as far in the playoffs with the team that drafted him as with the team he is with now. Only Drew Brees won a title after being a FA.

(Besides...Smith was not a FA, no? He was traded to the Chiefs wasn't he?)

The Gipper

Reply to Draft slots of 2013 playoff QBs on Tue, 29 Apr 2014 22:38:59 GMT

Manning, smith and Brees making the playoffs with teams other than the teams that drafted them isn't an argument for their draft position, it's an argument for free agency.

Gipp.. you should come on over to the dark side. We have about 10 qb at 4 threads lol

Joe lull broke it down. QB is the way to go.

I really dont see how we dont take one at 4. You cant build a QB out of receivers.

We need our franchise hallmark guy.. and we cant wait. If we take someone else.. our talent will take us out of the qb sweepstakes in years ahead.

We need our russell wilson.. our peyton/tom/matt/drew/phil etc.

If hoyer is that guy.. fine.. great. But we cant bank on that.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results.

Since couch. . all we have done is select bargain bin qbs or journeymen vets to lead our team. Lets grow a pair of balls and take that top 5 pick qb

I am not necessarily an advocate for taking a QB at #4....I am simply pointing out here where the "successful" QBs were taken in the draft. Hell, the Browns may be as well off waiting for the #35 pick to get one. Hell, maybe we can get our Tom Brady at our #180 or #218 picks. I might like to see the Browns take a Jeff Matthews out of Cornell at one of those slots....if we don't go QB much earlier.

As far as the dark side, I am the Horcrux you never knew you created.

The Gipper

Reply to Draft slots of 2013 playoff QBs on Tue, 29 Apr 2014 18:53:50 GMT

Gipp.. you should come on over to the dark side.
