Maybe this will give you some solace even though none of you were around to experience any of them.

Cities with the most championships. Cleveland is ranked #10.

A flaw exists though... the AAFC is included here, but not the ABA.

Bet most people don't know Pitt had a basketball championship....thats one more than cleveland has.

I always include the ABA in my compilations, along with the WHA, both of which merged into the NBA and NHL respectively, along with the AAFC and AFL.

I do not however include soccer and lacrosse at this time as does your link.. Currently, as far as I am concerned, they are basically minor league sports. Soccer is making headway. If they expand to like 24 teams, and can stick around for another several years, and not fold like the NASL did, then they may join the ranks of "major leagues".

Also, I combine markets more. I include Akron and Canton as part of the Cleveland market. I combine Oakland, San Fran and San Jose into one, as well as Anaheim/LA, and NY/NJ

The Gipper

Reply to Last Title by Town, Summer 2014 on Fri, 27 Jun 2014 12:30:33 GMT

Maybe this will give you some solace even though none of you were around to experience any of them.

The 2nd longest drought for a city that has 3 major sports teams is Minneapolis... and they won it all in 1991... that's only 23 years ago... we've been waiting 50 years...

very sad

For a while San Diego had 3 teams. Padres/Chargers/Clippers. But then the Clipper bugged out.

So, other than the one horse hockey towns of Ottawa and Vancouver, only San Diego has gone longer...by one year, than Cleveland.

And since 1995, the only teams to play in the finals of any sport (and lose) are the 1965 Browns.
