Richard Linklater....Boyhood....saw it..the only interesting thing about it was that it was filmed over like 12-14 years.....otherwise a big snooze fest. Think Interstellar only much longer

Damien Chazelle...Whiplash

Jason Hall....American Sniper

Paul Thomas Anderson ...Inherent Vice (son of Ghoulardi). Saw it.. I have like him in the past but this really his worst effort to date. Has no business being on this list.

It had more to do with the story near the end however. It was tastefully done and the code breaking portion of the film was engrossing from the beginning. Really good film. Still it will get extra points from the Academy for the homosexual angle. Still it's a worthy nomination.
