Are you saying Moon is really no better than like Vinny Testaverde or Drew Bledsoe or Kerry Collins? Guys that had long productive careers yet really didn't excel in the post season?

Perhaps....but I will give you these stats:

Moon is #7 in all time passing yards with 49,325, But, remember....because of his race really he wasn't invited to play in the NFL until after he had spent 5 years in Canada. In Canada he had 21,228 yards passing in his 5 years.

His total pro career yards would be 70,553....putting him #2 behind Favre if those were NFL yards.

Also.....he did WIN 3 CFL Grey Cup Championships. So he didn't choke up there. (and I think that the PFHOF voters took a lot of his CFL experience into consideration....without which he may very well have just been Testaverde or Bledsoe)

The Gipper

Reply to Hall of Fame Finalists Rejects on Thu, 12 Feb 2015 05:00:49 GMT

Warren Moon was a play-off choker and a wife-beater.
The company I worked for had seasons for the Oilers and the Astros. Stabler was fun to watch and he was pretty productive. I have to say though, you think Johnny parties, holy crap, The Snake would put him to shame. He was all over town during that era.

Edwardejw

Reply to Hall of Fame Finalists Rejects on Thu, 05 Feb 2015 05:24:44 GMT

Eddie DeBartolo Jr. 3

Yeah, perhaps Don should have aimed some of that offensive innovation at the defensive side of the ball.

Dste Ace

Reply to Hall of Fame Finalists Rejects on Wed, 04 Feb 2015 22:34:28 GMT

@<bdi>dste-ace</bdi> said:

I remember that at Don Coryell's funeral, John Madden basically said "I'm sitting in the front row

with Joe Gibbs and Dan Fouts and we're all in the Hall of Fame because of Don Coryell.

From SB*Nation:

"Coryell is credited with a laundry list of innovations. He was the architect behind the one-back formation, developed the "joker" tight end, pioneered the use of option routes, devised the flood route combination, conceived the numbered route tree/play-call lexicon, and was integral in the advancement of the use of pre-snap motion and running back screens"

"As a corollary, Coryell's innovations changed the way teams played defense (more nickel and dime), how they scouted players and what they prioritized in their players (speed, speed, speed and coverage ability)"

For a QB like Dan Marino to never win a SB....but who puts up remarkable stats and performances...it is OK, he will get in. But for a coach to not get his team to a SB, in this day and age, it will be held against him.

The same is true for Marty Schottenheimer....who is #6 with most wins in history as a coach...200-126-1.....but couldn't get it done in the big one.

Dan Reeves, #8 in all time win. Took 4 teams to SBs.....Broncos 3, Falcons to their only SB appearance.......overlooked because he won none, lost 4. (But I guess you have to lose all 4 in a row......like Marv Levy, who is in)

Chuck Knox #9 in all time wins.

Pretty much if you don't win, you don't get in.
