However, that viewpoint does betray a lack of understanding of the actual science here -there's nothing in the mitochondrial DNA that can be used to determine anything like that, mitochondrial DNA is used only to determine how energy is dealt with, along with cell reproduction/destruction. None of the mitochondrial DNA is used in determining aesthetic characteristics of the baby.

Outside of that, I'm not sure what objection people might have?

I don't have kids but if I wanted some and I can eliminate the risk of some horrid disease or physical deformity I wouldn't hesitate to use scientific methods to do so. If, in fact, I'm reading that correctly.
