<![CDATA[Resign Sheard and pay Taylor]]>Hello All,

First time posting. I haven't heard any rumors of working a deal with Sheard so I'm assuming he's hitting free agency which will be a huge blow to us. Same old story, we lose our good players and draft high to replace them. We need to pick up the 5.5M option on Taylor and pay the guy becasue he makes our D better and we can afford it, he's a beast. Let Rubin go and I'm not opposed to drafting Shelton or Brown (no Armstead) to really beef up our DL. Secondary is a concern when Screen and hits the market. We need him back, I really don't want us to use another high draft pick on a cb this year. And pay Gipson. Gipson proved worthy 3.3M so place the 1st round tender and make a team give up their 1st for rights to sign him. Amazing all 4 of these guys were drafted 3 regimes ago so I may seem naive, but they all looked good when on the field last year and know our system. Can we still have some continuity at least on defense??

Guess I just don't associate Bill with anything but the 3-4.

Didn't the Patriots run a 4-3 this year? So yeah of course they're looking at him as the other DE to Ninkovich.

Probably, why not. That is sorta what Sheard is anyway no? Really a DE?

(I don't think that is a left field thought......it seems pretty basic, more like a first or second base thought.

No idea. The ESPN article linked his twitter posts and he said it was "to pursue other interests". Probably has a family and doesn't want his brain and body to be mush in 15 years. I don't know anything about an injury history, though. He had a productive last few years.

Sheard is alright... undoubtedly the best strong side lb on the team last year, but he isn't really all that good... doesn't say much for our lb core.

Not only did he have to put on that much bulk in one off season - but you then have to adjust physically to being able to play with it. The body doesn't do that overnight nor through the early goings of a season. Perhaps Winn can be more effect this year at 300 bills? I'd like to think so, but his per snap effectiveness and his ability to play as a bigger strong side end with quicks was truly his greatest asset.

better yet that 3 back set that SF used in goal line. They also brought in one of their DT's as an extra road grader behind the O line.

well think about the movement. If you're a big lumbering oaf who doesn't have good sideways mobility you're not gonna pull a gymnastics move and vault two other large men. He tucked his knees into his chest in midair to clear his feet over their shoulders. I dunno maybe i'm wrong. It just seems like if you're gonna make that athletic of a move, you've got some overall athleticism to you.

yeah but getting your feet up high enough to clear offensive lineman who are starting to come out of their stances...that has to translate into good lateral mobility. Just a stupid athletic move that surely has to translate.
