exactly what I was thinking.......they drafted 3 this year alone(now 4).....plus 2 last year......?????

Its over.....He went to the Rams in the 5th round.

Amazing... All the OT names on the Rams roster and they are still taking shots.

@mudfly said:

OK, about right.

@the-gipper said:

Ok....fair enough...though, if thats the argument, then Id say it applies to every single player in the draft......IF we need one and IF he's good, then we should draft him.....???.....I could say that about every position or player out there.....

My reply simply says I dont think we really need the depth and the Browns probably dont think this guy is that good and has red flags, therefore, why take the chance?

As far as 75% percent of players being pot heads and undisciplined, Id disagree.....at least to the point that nowhere near 75% have been suspended for lack of discipline and nowhere near 75% enter the league already having been busted for pot(and, therefore, already in the drug program with a strike against them)......thats the reason Beckham Green and Shane Ray dropped so far in this last draft......so, to me, it doesnt make sense to say a guy who has a history of problems and has a drug bust on his remume is equal to hundreds of guys who dont.......

@mudfly said:

All valid. As I said, if the Browns felt they had a need to add depth....and if they thought this kid was a good fit, they could take a chance.....but like you said, they may not have a need (though you may be higher on Bowie than I am), and maybe this guy wouldn't fit if they did.

(but as far as pot smoking undisciplined player.....that describes probably 75% of the NFL)

@the-gipper said:

Playing devils advocate...here are my arguments not to draft him...

1) We currently have 5 guys who can play tackle, including 2 young ones(Erving/Bowie) to develop....(3 if you count Bitonio)

2) We currently do NOT have an extra roster spot to carry a project at a position we have 5 solid guys at(see #1 again)(and PS wouldnt be an option, so he'd be on the 53 man roster or lost to waivers)

3) We are working to build a team with higher character, so the last thing the Browns want to do is draft an undisciplined pot smoking project player

4) Id think the Browns are pretty comfortable with the O line currently and would prefer to use their future picks on areas of greater need

Above are all Supplemental draft picks since 1970.....not including the 1984 USFL supplemental draft. Some of these guys had decent careers....most notably Chris Carter HOF, and Bernie Kosar. Rob Moore, Jamal Williams, Mike Wahle also had good careers.

And the Browns now have the last two Supp draft picks on their roster: Gordon and Pryor....although Gordon is suspended.

So,maybe a 4th rounder for Battle.....good name....should be considered.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000500474/article/2015-nfl-supplemental-draft-primer

Only Battle is believed to be picked up. As for the Browns interest in him....if they feel they still need depth on the OL....and if they feel this guy could be a guy they can use, why not use a pick on him. 4th5th rounder. Browns have proven to be the one team willing to do something in the Supp draft.

Round 1) Pass

Round 2) Pass

Round 3) Pass

Round 4) Pass

Round 5) Pass

Round 6) Pass

Round 7) Pass

@the-gipper said:

Ive not heard anything like that.....only that he's "likely" to get picked and everything Ive read so far suggests mid - late rounds(3-5)...

OT's are pretty coveted, so if he's really a 1st round talent, someone will surely tap him earlier than 3.....

@mudfly said:

I saw on TV that if this guy Battle stayed and played this year and entered next years draft that he could be a first round pick.

plus, it's kind of late.....so anyone you pick is starting behind the ball by already missing OTA's and mini camps and conditioning etc....Id say a team desperate to fill a need now may take a swing...otherwise, most will pass on all these guys....

5. Bobby Humphrey. Humphrey's meteoric NFL career began when the Denver Broncos made him a first-round pick in the 1989 supplemental draft, and his rookie total of 1,151 yards rushing helped theBroncos earn a berth in Super Bowl XXIV against theSan Francisco 49ers. Humphrey followed up with aPro Bowl spot in 1990, but also the inevitable contract renegotiation, which ultimately ended his tenure with the Broncos. A trade to the Miami Dolphins did nothing to reignite Humphrey, and his promising career ended in a fizzle.

4. Brian Bosworth. Bosworth is now better known as one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history, but the highly touted Oklahoma linebacker was so well thought of when picked by the Seattle Seahawks in the first round of the 1987 supplemental draft that he was handed the largest rookie contract of all time at that point -- 10 years for $11 million. Bosworth is proof positive that all that glitters in the supplemental draft is not gold.

3. Steve Walsh. Walsh's selection by Jimmy Johnson in 1989 was curious for many reasons, not least that he had invested a first-round pick in quarterback Troy Aikman just weeks earlier. Johnson spent another first-rounder on Walsh, with whom he had won the 1987 national championship at the University of Miami.

Walsh actually won the Dallas Cowboys starting job ahead of Aikman in his rookie season, starting five games -- including the team's only victory that year -- before being benched for the eventual three-time Super Bowl winner. Walsh was traded to New Orleans a year later and wound up playing for six NFL teams in an undistinguished 11-year NFL career.

2. Bernie Kosar. Kosar's manipulation of the NFL's long-established draft rules allowed him to play with his preferred team, the Cleveland Browns, after they traded away their 1985 and 1986 first-round picks for the Buffalo Bills' top pick in the 1986 draft.

They then used that pick to select Kosar with the first overall pick in the 1985 supplemental draft. Sound complicated? The fact that Kosar effectively chose to play for the Browns made him an instant "Dawg Pound" favorite, and when Bill Belichick released Kosar in 1993 and replaced him with Vinny Testaverde, he lost the support of Cleveland's loyal fans.

1. Cris Carter. Gordon can take some hope from Carter's introduction to the NFL. Picked in the fourth round of the supplemental draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, Carter's NFL career didn't begin well either. After being released by Eagles head coach Buddy Ryan following extensive off-field problems with drugs, Carter excelled with theMinnesota Vikings in his second NFL stop, putting together a career that wound up with him being enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
