Between June 12, 1995 and April 4, 2001, the Indians sold out 455 consecutive home games, drawing a total of 19,324,248 fans to Jacobs Field. The demand for tickets was so great that all 81 home games were sold out before Opening Day on at least three separate occasions. The sellout streak set a Major League Baseball record; this was broken by the Boston Red Sox on September 8, 2008, though Boston's Fenway Park is considerably smaller than Progressive Field.[109] One night after the streak ended, the Indians honored the fans by retiring the number 455.

The fuck they didn't. AC was a burned out ghost town essentially before the casinos started up in the 70s. And yes, while some have closed down....for a couple of reasons....bad economy......proliferation of venues everywhere else in the nearby states.....it still is sure a hell of a lot better off than it was in the 50s/60s when it became one big ghetto. Did it lose all of its ghetto? No. But it helped a lot.

we just added them a few years ago...not sure exactly.....

Im no gambler, so have never been there.....dont do the lotto either.....

Though, once while in St Louis, I walked into a riverboat casino and was inside having a drink and watching my buddies play cards....just chillin..... We had a very early meeting the next morning, so had plans to go back to our hotel by 10 to get some rest.......at some point I decided to step outside for some fresh air and.....kablammo!!.....we were NOT at the dock!!!....the stinking river boat was cruising down the river, so we could not get off.....went back in and asked and they said 3 hrs before we return...

Nah. I don't know what community you are talking about. Here there are casinos in downtown Cleveland, which filled an empty department store that had been closed for years, and downtown Cleveland is doing just fine.

And in Northfield, a casino was essentially built in the parking lot of a racetrack....and the community was and is a nice commuter community.

And in North Randall. Trust me, that community was killed long before the casino got there. Again, it was placed inside a racetrack.

The two racetracks had been in those locations for decades....so gambling had been happening there for decades. A new form just came about.
I don't know about "all of a sudden" because I haven't looked into the history of the cities. When you see casinos in the south though, it's not as part of a nice city. I've only been to Shreveport and Tunica. They were pretty trashy. New Orleans is terrible. Louisiana is pretty bad in general and there's a ton of gambling. Oklahoma has gambling and it's awful. Cleveland is not noted as a particularly vibrant city so IMO it's not a very good citation.

wargograw

Reply to Who has the best chance? on Wed, 29 Jul 2015 20:52:37 GMT

@<bdi>wargograw</bdi> said:

But the reason the inconsistencies exist is because state governments have the right to make their own (differing) laws.
Yes, it is a fair point.
I went on a rant?....about State government?.....ok, if you say so....?

In my world, I just responded to Chris questioning why we have some things legal in some places and then not have them legal in others...

And offered some insight(and, I believe, complete truths) about how things are very inconsistent here in the US of A....but I certainly dont see where I took a stand(on anything) or mentioned anything about getting rid of state governments....
