On Tuesday, Houston citizens defeated a major objective of the LGBT community in a landslide victory. This is what happens when voters decide on important cultural issues, not agenda-driven executives and judicial activists. Please see my update below – Mat.

In a stunning upset to the radical homosexual movement, Houston voters struck down the "Houston Equal Rights Ordinance." HERO was a hotly contested proposal designed to elevate homosexuals to a protected "civil rights" class, while giving equal access to bathrooms and other facilities to those who "identify" themselves as being of a gender other than their biological gender.

+ + This has been an ongoing and closely watched battle.

Mayor Annise Parker, a lesbian and forceful advocate of the LGBT agenda, has been on the forefront of ramming through HERO.

You may recall that last year Mayor Parker targeted Houston's pastors, who she deemed as adversaries to her agenda. She launched an aggressive assault, in violation of the First Amendment, when Houston city attorneys working for the Mayor issued a subpoena to five Houston-area pastors demanding that they deliver to the city transcripts of "all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to HERO, the Petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity prepared by, delivered by, revised by, or approved by you or in your possession."

This was a direct attack on Christians and a violation of the inalienable right of pastors to speak freely from their pulpits! Liberty Counsel's legal team represented parties infringed upon by the attack.

+ + Tuesday's outcome in Houston is precisely what happens when American citizens are given the opportunity to vote on controversial "gender laws."

Prior to the Supreme Court's five unelected lawyers creating a right to same-sex "marriage," over 50 million Americans voted for initiatives defining marriage as "a union between one man and one woman." In thirty-nine states, the measures were enacted democratically through voter referendums or the legislatures. In every state where the marriage issue was presented to the voters, natural marriage prevailed.

Now, because of the SCOTUS ruling, Christians in public service, in business, and in ministry are fully in the crosshairs of LGBT extremists, the Obama administration, and agenda-driven state and local officials. Our religious liberties are under seige.

Religious liberty is the first protection in the Bill of Rights and the cornerstone of all our civil liberties.
