I will likely do 2-3 sets of trivia about the Super Bowl/Championship games before the next two weeks.

Lets start here. Give a try:

Answers:

1. What is the all time head to head record in the regular season between the Broncos and Panthers?

(they have never met in playoffs, obviously)

Broncos lead 3 games to 1. Interesting that in over 20 years these teams have only played 4 times.

2. The Broncos have appeared in 7 previous Super Bowl games, and are currently 2-5 in those games

A. Name the two teams the Broncos have defeated in their two wins.

Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers.

B. Name the 5 teams they have lost to in their 5 losses

Hint: They have never played the same team twice

Seahawks, 49ers, Redskins, Cowboys, Giants. Now playing Panthers. Again.....8 different Super Bowl appearances, 8 different opponents.

I wonder what the odds of that would be.

3. The Panthers have played in one previous Super Bowl game, and lost. To Whom?

Maine/New Hampshire/Vermont/Massachussets/Rhode Island/Connecticut Patriots

4. Peyton Manning will be starting his 4th Super Bowl game. Name all other QBs who have started 4 or more Super Bowl games.

Brady 6, Elway 5, Bradshaw, Montana, Staubach, Kelly 4 each.

5. If Peyton loses, he will join 3 other QBs who will have lost 3 or more SBs as starting QB.

Name these other 3.

Fran Tarkenton, Jim Kelly, John Elway

6. If the Broncos win, they will join 8 other teams who have won 3 or more Super Bowls. Name these 8 teams.

Steelers, 49ers, Cowboys, Packers, Giants, Patriots, Raiders, Redskins

7. The Super Bowl is being played this year in the Bay area. It has only been played in that area one time before. Who were the two teams that met in that only previous Bay area Super Bowl?

SF 49ers vs. Miami Dolphins. Practically a home game for 49ers who won big. Year...I believe 1985

8. Santa Clara will now be the 5th city in California to host a Super Bowl. More than any other state.

Name the other 4 Calif. cities to host a Super Bowl.

San Diego, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Palo Alto

9. A. What feat can Peyton Manning achieve with a win in this Super Bowl that only one other QB in Pro Football history has accomplished before him?

He can become only the second QB to win a Pro Football Championship with two different teams. He tried but failed 2 years ago vs. Seahawks, but now has a second chance.

Only Kurt Warner before him had a chance to do this in the Super Bowl era....but he lost in that last minute to the Steelers.

Craig Morton (Cowboys/Broncos) is the only QB to start in Super Bowls with different teams to lose both of them.

And as noted above, 3 Pre SB QBs had chances.....they won a title with one team and played but lost a title game with another team:

Van Brocklin, Herber, Kemp

B. Name that person that he can join in this feat.

Tobin Rote......he won as QB for the Lions in 1957, and again as starting QB for the Charger in AFL in 1963

10. Three QBs in history won a Super Bowl....and a pre SB Championship. Name these QBs.

Len Dawson AFL Dallas Texans(nka Chiefs), Johnny Unitas, Colts. Bart Starr, Packers.

A note about Dawson....he and Jim Plunkett and Bob Waterfield are three QBs who won championships for the same franchise....but in different cities. Dawson won with the Dallas Texans...later to become the Kansas City Chiefs....where he won again. Plunkett won titles for the Oakland Raiders, and the LA Raiders. Bob Waterfield won for the Cleveland Rams then for the LA Rams.

11. What 2 QBs since 1970 (but all time actually as well) have won the most postseason games in their careers but never won a Super Bowl game?

Jim Kelly and Donovan McNabb....each with 9 wins....but not titles.

12. Peyton Manning is second all time in the Super Bowl in completion pct. among players who played in more than one game. Who is the one person ahead of him.

Troy Aikman
