Manning's LOS shenanigans will be hard to replace - they went with him over Osweiler for a reason - and Jackson & Trevathon were important players. They need to get the right QB, though he doesn't need to be a superstar, and they need to replace the middle of that front seven basically. But with Ware and Miller they'll always cause problems in the pass game, just need to sure up the run. Add to that their own problems protecting the QB (they tried to get JT for a reason), and there are enough holes to keep Elway on his toes, and necessitate some good drafting/dealing if they're to be back in the big game.

gftChris

Reply to The Pats won 3 SB's around a kicker and an all-time defense. on Tue, 15 Mar 2016 17:57:36 GMT

Denver would have won the SB last year with Weedon throwing.
No....what Im saying is that the Browns picked other players ahead of them, lending credence to Mics statement that they picked team development over QB in those drafts...

I think most people would say if you see your franchise QB sitting there, you dont draft other players first and just hope that your future drops to you....everyone knows QB's are drafted higher than their actual value(which you've been yelling about the past month with Wentz and Goff)....so, why all of a sudden switch your stance and say that just because they were (late) first round picks, you suddenly expect them to perform like it???....esp when you dont have the same expectation for Goff and Wentz....

No, I WOULD have the same expectation of Goff and Wentz.....if they were drafted....Just like I had expectations of Weeden, Quinn, Manziel.
Yeah, because boy that Manning fella isn't an all-time great QB.

Well no you can win, ur defense just has to be that much better. Last season manning was beyond awful. You do realize if that if he had been that way his whole career he would never have even played d1 ball. His knowledge of the game was the only thing that kept him in there.

As per ur statement i would also offer you cant win with a bottom tier defense either. Our defense is preposterous. Yes i said preposterous. Means i cant beleive it even exists. We would have been in the playofs two years ago "easily" if we had only had an avg defense

Clevfan4life

Reply to The Pats won 3 SB's around a kicker and an all-time defense. on Mon, 14 Mar 2016 18:55:00 GMT

@<bdi>texasag1969</bdi> said:

I guess you weren't pay close attention to the Denver QB problem all season long. The D won the season and the playoffs including the SB which is why Manning retired. He knew the truth.

The answer to the idea of being a great team without an elite QB in today's NFL is easily, easily resolved. Look at any team that has won a super bowl past Tampa Bay and think if those dudes weren't top 10 at their position at the time (or still are in many cases).

You don't win without the big stakes without a true franchise QB. Of course, a great TEAM wins the Super Bowl and I understand that.
