That kind of tackling attempt in Cleveland in 2015 led to a lot of concussions in our defense/secondary and missed tackles. If he's going to be in the last tier of defense in the NFL (not to be confused with the ACC), this could be more problematic than some think. All this talk he's flexible enough to play Corner or Safety, tackling is a pretty scary thing to be weak at. There's a couple draft guides that also include tackling as a weakness so it's not just the 5 highlights the NFL Channel keeps showing depicting this.

2 things that could dilute my concerns somewhat are:

1) Is he a ballhawk that gets his team a bunch of turnovers? 3 INTs in 3 years says no.

2) Is he a shutdown corner beyond the ACC? Maybe.

Even if he is a shut-down corner, he'll still be asked to tackle RBs weighing over 220 lbs with a head of steam quite often when we defend the run. That being the case, he either gets his pad height down or he's a frequent concussion candidate in the NFL. Besides bad tackling, wasn't our volume of concussions accompanying the bad habits higher than normal here?

I've been wrong before though. Besides, I probably just karma'd this kid to greatness...

Reply to Is Ramsey Really THAT Good? on Thu, 21 Apr 2016 18:15:55 GMT

@<bdi>jiggins7919</bdi> said:

I'm a diehard FSU fan, so obviously I'm biased, but Ramsey is absolutely ridiculous. He can stop the run, cover, rush the QB, AND...he has his shit completely together OFF the field.
Can he stop the run? I'd like evidence of this. I see a guy who flys up to the ball carrier, but arrives uncontrolled, high and rarely secures a 1 on 1 tackle. As for covering. I agree, but it depends on the coverage. His footwork in man leaves a lot to be desired and as I've said, in the tape I saw had plenty of safety help rolled his way.

Physically he's gifted and seems like a solid character off the field. But you can't take my analysis, then come back with saying these things without quantifying them and just using generalizations. Especially if you're an FSU fan.

tiamat63

Reply to Is Ramsey Really THAT Good? on Thu, 21 Apr 2016 15:09:39 GMT

@<bdi>jiggins7919</bdi> said:

I'm a diehard FSU fan...

Hate to say I didn't take a snap count. But..... I didn't take a snap count.

For what I saw in the three 2014 tapes, he played back on the hash about 65% of the time. If we want to apply that 65% over the course of 12-14 games, so be it. I'm sure that number might have some flux in either direction. If he wasn't there, he was up in the box playing a nickel, or blitzing from that spot. Oddly enough he was used a TON at the line in the Rose Bowl or split out between the numbers against bunch packages. Kid has the willingness to take on screens and blockers, he just needs better technique and tackling to fight them off. It wasn't until this past seasons tape when I noticed he rarely moved from playing outside.

tiamat63

Reply to Is Ramsey Really THAT Good? on Tue, 19 Apr 2016 18:08:40 GMT

tia... roughly what was Ramsey's split between CB and FS?

Tour2ma

Reply to Is Ramsey Really THAT Good? on Tue, 19 Apr 2016 17:03:53 GMT

@<bdi>miktoxic</bdi> said:

Even if Patrick is Peter's son - I wouldn't have drafted him #2 as much as he intrigued me so I never quite got the love and adoration for Ramsey on the NFL Channel. It's like they want to invent someone so presto we have a gotta have anywhere from #1 to #4 overall. Really? You might want to find better highlights for your viewers then.

The guy might end up being a lot better than I'm giving him credit for today; but his tacking is atrocious for a last tier of defense. Now factor in how bad our tackling was in 2015 while our pass rush hurried nobody to take advantage of his press coverage assets.
