You apparently neither heard nor understood...

The MIT Prof never mentioned volume and there is a reason.

When you ratio temperature states of an ideal gas to predict the pressure of the second state using the following equation, P2 = P1 * (T2/T1), then the assumption that the volume is unchanged is inherent. This the exact equation shown in the video.

highly inflated balls bounce highly.

Less inflated balls bounce lower. Or lesser. Less bounce, easier to catch.

The locker room attendants had the balls

From the link:

"The report states that just prior to the AFC championship game, the game officials could not locate the Patriots' game balls, noting that "It was the first time in [referee Walt] Anderson's nineteen years as an NFL official that he could not locate the game balls at the start of a game."

According to videotape evidence, McNally had removed the two bags of footballs and taken them to a bathroom where he locked the door and remained for "approximately one minute and forty seconds."

The league's investigation uncovered a number of text messages between McNally and Jastremski that discussed Brady's displeasure with the game balls and actions to be taken.

According to the report, in one particularly damning text message exchange between McNally and Jastremski, McNally refers to himself as "the deflator."

"Nice dude....jimmy needs some kicks....lets make a deal.....come on help the deflator."

Later, the two exchanged texts indicating that Brady had complained about the condition of the footballs during a late-regular season game against the New York Jets. Following that game, Jastremski sent a text messages to McNally stating that he "can't wait to give you your needle this week" and "I have a big needle for u this week," presumably referencing a needle to deflate the footballs.

I seen a study where they inflated the balls to the minimum psi, then put them in a freezer for 2 hrs. They ended up losing like .1 - .3 lbs. Some of the Pats balls were like 6lbs under. The advantage it gave Brady gripping and throwing the ball is negligible, but I saw a stat that showed in the last 6 or 7 years the Pats had the least amount of fumbles, 1/2 as much as the next team. This has not bee so much about whether or not the footballs here were inflated.....or whether or not Brady knew about it. He probably did. It is about 2 other things:

1. The other teams and owners being tired of the Patriots attempts to take advantage of loopholes in the rules...or to go beyond the rules....i.e. Their Cheating. This was just the last straw for a lot of the rest of the NFL ownership tolerating the cheating. So the harsh punishment they were doled out were because of their pattern of abuse, and not just this one incident.

2. It is also about the Powers Invested in the Commissioner by the Collective Bargaining agreement to mete out what he deems, in his sole discretion, to be appropriate punishment to transgressors. The court ruled that they will not substitute their judgment for that of the NFL Commissioner. This appellate court said that it is NOT their job to hear the facts of the case de novo. It was their job to determine if the Union, or Brady had the right to challenge his decision. They court held that they do not. Only if there was gross abuse would they have done something.....and they felt that there was no gross abuse in the punishment. They said....IF the Commish determined that there was a violation....they would not second guess his conclusions. They also affirmed his unfettered right to mete out the punishment for these transgressions. And they would not second guess that as well if it were anything short of a lifetime ban or the like.

The courts said: if the union does not like the fact that the Commissioner has these powers...powers THEY granted him in their CBA, their remedy is to not challenge the powers he weilds at this point.....but to renegotiate those powers as part of the future Collective Bargaining agreement.

And you know why this issue isn't all that important to the Union? Because it really only affects a handful of guys. Out of thousands of players who have been in the league since 2006...when a lot of this began , only about 80 people in all that time have come under discipline. And fyi..... most of the players in the league probably agreed with most of the punishment dealt......for domestic abuse/drugs etc. This one incident of discipline for cheating on the rules isn't going to make the union want to go to war over cheaters/abusers/drug users.

The players are interested in their salaries, benefits, retirement, health care...etc. etc. They are not going to go stiff backed because some Ray Rice wifebeater, Adrian Peterson childabuser, Josh Gordon drug user gets what some may think is harsh discipline.

They will let the punishment of these guys ride as long as they get their money and benefits.

The Gipper

Reply to Brady deflated again on Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:39:36 GMT

@<bdi>unsympathetic</bdi> said:

Whose balls actually did not match the Ideal Gas Law?
