<![CDATA[The 2016 "Sunday Ticket" Deal Thread]]>Thought we could collect what "deals" subscribers have been able to get and help each other out.

I called today and the "do-nothing-and-you-are-automatically-renewed" rate for 2016 was quoted as $269. Price is essentially the same whether pay it in one-time lump or 6 monthly installments. The drop-dead date for opting out is... wait for it... 911.

I told the rep (sounded like a foreign call center) I was talking to I am considering dropping it and further I was considering dropping DTV altogether in favor of cable due to price. No immediate offers to retain me came forth. A few years ago during a similar call a reduced ST price was immediately ponied up. I figure I'll call back again in a couple weeks.

Has anyone already wrangled a better deal? What was your approach?

This is typical of the sort of s**t I'm accustomed to when AT&T takes over a company- and proceeds to ruin it. Only a matter of time until they ruin Direct.

Just called and got on the line with a Bengals fan of all people. Hemmed and hawwed about how my bill was more than I'm used to and it's a little rich for my cost and he said hold on, let me see what I can do.

First off, I'm not on a contract. I'm year 3 of my original 2 year plan so I'm just month to month at this point. He came back and offered a $50/month credit for 12 months ($600 value) plus a guaranteed discounted (maybe free) Sunday Ticket next year if I agreed to re-up for a 1 year contract. So if you are not under contract but know you want DirecTV for the next year, that's a killer deal.

Add HBO/Cinemax for 3 months @ $15/month and you get free Sunday Ticket Max (not just regular) for free. You can cancel HBO/Cinemax at the end of the 3 months and keep the Sunday Ticket Max for free.

The best they offered was 20% discount for "loyal customer" and $50 more for "Max" for the season.

I just told them not to renew me for any of it and will wait to see if a better offer comes in email at some point as the season draws near. If not then I will just surf the web for day after viewing for free.

This article definitely goes back to what I was referring to earlier. They hear the song and dance about cancelling service all the time and know it's usually a bluff. If you play hardball and say "please give me someone who can disconnect my service as without NFL sunday ticket I do not want DirectTV" there's a STRONG possibility that next person will throw some discounts your way. Also, don't be a dick-be straight up and firm but polite. If they truly don't, just lie and say an emergency came up and you'll call back to cancel. They won't give a shit because they didn't lose a customer and in the end you're not losing anything but your time.
