The headline is misleading but it's an interesting example of what AI is capable of if it's not explicitly programmed to do something. Apparently Facebook created two AI chat bots and set them to talking to each other. They found human language to be inefficient and so created it's own machine language to communicate between them. It's apparently nominally based on English, but sort of like the HAL 9000 in <em>2001</em> when it's conciousnes starts to degrade. In any case I wonder what kind of mishaps are going to happen with AI before we learn to properly harness it. </p>
