And many of the players who are cut and out of football and in the general working pool will be lucky to make $600 a week.

No wonder most NFL. MLB, NBA, NHL players "sell out" just to make any team....... besides for the love of the game.

I would.

And that's "just" Kentucky. We can cringe at what pro athletes get paid, but who pays for the exorbitant salaries of college football or basketball coaches? Yeah some of the big buck alumni, but it mostly falls on the students. Hell, even some of the assistant coaches at "The" Ohio State University make more than $$$ a million a year. Sign me up- please.

IIRC Urban Meyer was the highest paid public employee in Ohio, way more than any of the teaching doctors at the OSU hospital.  The Governor makes peanuts by comparison.

"Is this a great country or what!".

We used to play hockey in the winter on the nearby swamp.  Didn't need any of that.  As long as the ice was frozen.  We played in our boots, no skates. Used sticks we found off trees. Used a rock for a puck and just like an old chair or a bucket for the goal.

I heard this guy was your most difficult opposition back in the day. ??

So what do you think a college football coach is worth......at Ken-tucky? Well here's a peak at Mark Stoops (from Youngstown, Ohio) redone deal. Fair or crazy?

https://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/kentucky/2019/08/29/kentucky-football-mark-stoops-awarded-raise-amended-contract/2149295001/

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Mark Stoops has been rewarded for Kentucky football's historic 2018 season with a raise.

A contract amendment signed Wednesday and released Thursday increases Stoops' salary by $500,000 per year in each of the six remaining years on his current deal. That boost replaces a clause that awarded Stoops $250,000 per win starting with the seventh win in a season. Now the bonus does not go into effect until win No. 9 in a given year.

Stoops will be paid $4.75 million this season. His annual salary then escalates by $250,000 per year to $6 million in 2024-25. Per the terms of his previous deal, Stoops' contract is automatically extended by one year each time Kentucky wins seven games in a season and automatically extended by an additional year if Kentucky wins 10 games in a season.

"I really appreciate Dr. Capilouto, Mitch Barnhart and the support they’ve given me and our staff since we’ve been here. It’s very important. Continuity is important. Just appreciate it. We’re grateful for it. We’ve been talking about it for some time. It always takes a little time with the details and things of that nature.”

The amendment adds bonuses for being named SEC Coach of the Year ($50,000) and National Coach of the Year ($100,000) to his previous incentives for reaching the SEC championship game ($100,000), winning the SEC championship game ($200,000), reaching a New Year's Six bowl ($200,000), reaching the College Football Playoff semifinals ($300,000), reaching the national championship game ($400,000), winning a national championship ($500,000), reaching a bowl game ($100,000), achieving at least a 2.75 team GPA in a semester ($50,000) and recording at least a .975 Academic Progress Rate ($50,000).

The new deal also allows Stoops up to 10 in-flight hours of private aircraft use for personal travel per year.

Should Stoops leave UK with five or more full years remaining on his contract, he would owe the university a buyout of $1.75 million. The buyout decreases based on the number of years remaining on the deal: four ($1.65 million), three ($1.55 million), two or one ($1.5 million). The number of years remaining on the contract would include any future extensions triggered by a 7-or-10-win season

Stoops led Kentucky to just the third 10-win season in program history in 2018 and a Citrus Bowl win over Penn State. He was named SEC Coach of the Year after leading the Wildcats to their first winning record in conference play since 1977. Kentucky is the only team in the country to match or exceed its previous season's win total in six consecutive years and has reached three consecutive bowl games for just the third time in program history........ CONTINUED.........

Shows how misleading some stat tables can be especially when taken at face value or out of context.

So now I make the recommendation for the guy who just broke their records (and everyone else's all-time records) with an average of over 50 per punt and somehow you think I'm pissing in your cornflakes because he's one of my homeboys? And low and behold there's another Aggie punter, HOFer Yale Larry (44.3 career ave.) from the 50's. And I haven't even mentioned Steve O'Neal, the guy with the unbreakable NFL longest net punt record of 98 yards.

Anyway my point is someone will jump on the Aggie punter next draft (barring injury), Braden Mann, #34 on your roster, #1 in your heart. You can catch his first 2019 game tonight on SEC Network (Ch. 611 Direct TV) @ 7:30 EDT. Watch him and make up your own closed mind. LOL!??

On the other thing...I was just jumping in your shit because you have become Woody like....slavering over every TAMU player that might even see a cup of coffee.   But actually, no, I don't think that just because a punter ...or any other position...is great in college means he will turn out great in the pros.

I mean, what is the reason you were here in the first place?  Hello Johnny Fucking Football!!

And he will never admit that there was contact of chest to helmet in the roughing the QB call either.?

It was low amateur soccer doofus. The point being the Bengal players thought they were hot shit, and soccer players were a bunch of pansies. Just like you apparently do.

They were still playing fucking soccer.  And they were still playing a soccer team. Of course the Bengals would lose. If the Bengals challenged the Wittenberg basketball team to a basketball game they would get their hats handed to them.

They should have played baseball.

Just give it up already, you're fighting a losing battle, and the Millennials are going to win it.  It's inevitable as the tide coming in. Baseball used to be "The National Pastime", now for the majority of sports fans it just "passes time" until football starts.  The same could well happen to the NFL- a victim of it's own success.

Really.....Average MLB attendance:  28,830 per game....for a game played every day.  MLS...avg attendance...21,692.  for a game played once per week.

And Lacrosse may eventually overtake them all.  I have seen something that said they had a 73,000 some crowd for a lacrosse game in Denver.  An outlier, certainly...but maybe a trend.

@the-gipper said:

Well...yea.   The professional soccer challenges the football team..at soccer...and surprise, surprise, surprise...the pro soccer players win big.   How about this....the football team plays the soccer team...at football. What do you think would happen?   Mayhem for the soccer team of course.

Maybe they should have played a baseball game?

It was the Cinci slugs against the Bengals- real soccer match kiddo. Bengals even had their kicker Horst Muhlman who played soccer in Germany as their goalie. The Bengals quit when they were down 10-0. Their far superior athletic ability got trumped by superior talent. In case you're wondering I didn't make this up. I heard it from Collinsworth himself.   Wah, wah. And every pro soccer player would gas 99% of NFL players and do a horizon job on them in a 10k race. You're so anti soccer- why not have soccer players get challenged to a 225 bench press contest with NFL linemen? More selective BS on your part, if you want to pick one facet of ability.

Yeah, I learned to play hockey the same way on a frozen pond- but we at least had skates, and real hockey sticks. Some of those guys couldn't skate too well. I'll tell you this- the level of skating now in HS hockey is in a different world than what it was in 1970. And playing organized hockey now entails a significant financial outlay. Just a pair of skates costs at least $150 bucks.

A kids soccer ball costs what?  10-12 bucks?  A baseball costs about 6-7 bucks.  A glove a lot more.

A kids football is about 20 bucks.   I checked the prices from Dick's.

@the-gipper said:

I never said there was no talent...I said it did not involve the same skill level...at its basic level.   And oh...What was that bet on?  Running distances? No shit Sherlock, that is what soccer is all about...and about all they do...run around all day.  That would be like football players to challenge NBA players to a slam dunk contest.  How about the soccer players challenge the football players to like King of the Hill or Smear the Queer.   See who wins that.

You nailed it ffd. I have no doubt in my mind when all these kids are in their 20s and 30s and the old anti-soccer crowd  croaks, soccer will be  challenging the NFL in popularity here. Said way back in the late  90s when  soccer  was taking off,  we'd eventually have some homegrown stars who could  compete at the highest level. Check. When those who played as kids  started  coaching the junior  play would  improve.  Check. And Gipper is full of  shit  if he thinks there's no talent involved  to play the sport. Check. You need virtually  a marathon  runners  endurance  and plenty of  talent to play the sport  at the highest level.  Ask Chris Collinsworth about  that when a Cincinnati club soccer team creamed a group of the Bengals on a bet.

Probably why soccer is  gaining  in popularity.  Shoes, uniform, and  a field. Ahem- pitch to be proper.

Having played hockey, it's probably the  most expensive sport of all  to get involved in.  You're not  only paying for  ice  time, equipment is crazy expensive if you're  not buying  junk. If I wanted to get back to playing goalie on a senior team, I'd be  looking at at least $3,000 in equipment, probably  more.

Go to most any community park this time of year and see the parking lot filled with cars. Wonder why? That’s all the local kids there playing soccer. Call it what you like but it’s very popular anymore. I bet more American children play soccer now than little league baseball and youth football leagues combined.
