Earlier in the season<span> </span><a href="https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2023/10/17/23920635/browns-offense-kevin-stefanski-details" rel="external nofollow" style="background-color:transparent;color:#df6108">a national analyst lauded Stefanski’s ability as a coach and play caller</a><span> </span>before major injuries continued to decimate the team.
	</p>

	<p>
		Now, with the season coming to an end, getting this Cleveland team to 11-5 is beyond impressive and, likely, locked up the award for Stefanski.
	</p>

	<h2>
		<strong>Defensive Player of the Year</strong>
	</h2>

	<p>
		A “fun” argument on social media is just how good DE<span> </span><strong>Myles Garrett</strong><span> </span>is compared to others at his position. Garrett gets double and triple-teamed more than anyone in the league, has offenses game planning around him to get the ball out in less than two seconds and still gets a huge amount of pressures on quarterbacks while also playing the run.
	</p>

	<p>
		LB/DE<span> </span><strong>Micah Parsons</strong><span> </span>has had a similar season as Garrett and could be in contention for the award as well.
	</p>

	<h2>
		<strong>Comeback Player of the Year</strong>
	</h2>

	<p>
		This award is likely to go to DB<span> </span><strong>Damar Hamlin</strong><span> </span>for a ton of good reasons. If it doesn’t, Flacco’s story has taken the NFL by storm and that story could steal the award away for the Browns starting QB.
	</p>

	<h2>
		<strong>Special Teams Player of the Year</strong>
	</h2>

	<p>
		This is one where Cleveland will have a top-three finisher but kicker<span> </span><strong>Dustin Hopkins<span> </span></strong>missing the last three weeks of the season (getting hurt in Week 16) likely takes the award away from him. Hopkins got hurt chasing down a kick return that went for a touchdown. Felt wrong to not at least include him here and penalize him for that effort even if it will keep him from winning the award.
	</p>

	<h2>
		<strong>MVP</strong>
	</h2>

	<p>
		It is at least a part of the conversation that Garrett also should be in the running for MVP.<span> </span><a href="https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/leagues/football/nfl?category=awards&amp;subcategory=mvp" rel="external nofollow" style="background-color:transparent;color:#df6108">He’s currently listed as +50000 on DraftKings</a>, along with Parsons, while being the odds-on favorite for DPOY. Before Flacco’s resurgence, Garrett (along with Stefanski) was the main reason the Browns were in playoff contention.
	</p>

	<h2>
		<strong>Assistant Coach of the Year</strong>
	</h2>

	<p>
		Putting Garrett in a position to succeed, DC Jim Schwartz has put himself in position for this award. A rarely discussed award, DeMeco Ryans, Dan Quinn and Brian Daboll have won the last three. Ryans and Daboll went on to become head coaches after it while Quinn pulled his name from consideration despite being a top candidate for multiple head coaching jobs.
	</p>

	<h2>
		<strong>Executive of the Year</strong>
	</h2>

	<p>
		GM Andrew Berry has done amazing work putting together the roster and then adjusting when injuries befell the team. No easy task especially with the amount of salary cap space on IR (around 25% of theirs) at this point. Big moves and small moves have paid off for Berry this season.
	</p>

	<hr />
	<p>
		The odds of the Browns pulling in all of these awards are low. MVP will likely go to a QB. Special teams is unlikely due to Hopkins' injury and Hamlin’s return from passing on the field likely keeps him at the top of the comeback list.
	</p>

	<p>
		It is still amazing that Cleveland is rightfully in discussion for seven awards and could take home five or six with four feeling close to certain.

	I'll give it a shot.  11 time Pro Bowl LT Trent Williams who faced Myles this year - had a glowing endorsement for Myles as Defensive Player of the Year.  Williams also just earned his 3rd consecutive All Pro honor; so I think the wealth of experience and excellence makes him a very credible source.  I shared the video/sound of that in the Myles/DPOY thread that started over the weekend.

<p>
	 It isn't just the double team rates, but a combination of that, drawing opposing blocking assignment, pressure rates vs double team rates and alignment.  Where Myles rushed from the interior quite a bit more than Watt.   To me, anyway, interior pressure scores &gt; edge pressure scores.   This is why Aaron Donald had been considered the most dominant defensive player in the NFL for such a long stretch.

			I was lurking on a Steelers board a yesterday and yeah, they are pretty upset. I think Garrett was the best player on the best defense leading the way. I'm not sure what happened to Garrett at the tail end of the season, his production dipped (shoulder maybe?)

<p>
	I'm gonna sound like a typical homer here - but hear me out.  Remember back when Colin Kaepernick became a big brat and respecting the National Anthem was beneath him?   The NFL pretty much singled him out and black-balled him from playing again.  YES, he wasn't alone but QBs are supposed to be leaders.  Consequently, something took place behind the scenes where <strong>someone with a lot of power</strong> had a thought process resembling a quote in Shakespeare's Macbeth <em>"The loddy doth protest too much, methinks!"  </em>
</p>

<p>
	As Myles' success soared to all new heights in the 1st half of the season; he started getting held even more frequently and blatantly by both guys in double teams right in front of the officials.  However, Myles complained when umpires, referees, linesmen and line judges stopped flagging those committing the penalty.  If you refuse to call it - you're giving permission for people to break the rules of the game.  Understanding how huge this was at impacting the success of our defense - Myles made the very legitimate gripe; and then got fined by the league for doing so.  After this, I only remember 1 or 2 more holding flags against his opponents the rest of the season. The die-hards on this board weren't just keeping track - they brought multiple pictures and even a video or 2 of unflagged holds/muggings right near passers clearly in the view of refs and umpires.  When this occurred outside of the pocket - the linesmen and line judges gave it all the same blind eye that pictures/videos disagreed with.  Myles was on pace for about 28 sacks or so.  I'll concede the playing through injury had an impact on the volume. However, even a blind man in the bleachers could see the unwillingness to enforce the rules of the game via allowing everybody to hold Myles.
</p>

<p>
	Moral of the story?  If you're gonna poke the bear - you better wine and dine his ass while doing so.  Right Myles?   You would have won 4 Defensive Player of the Year Awards this season if you did that.  That said, we'll settle for 1 - and thanks for the relentless efforts shown in all your sic em, sock em and sack em.  My football wood factor felt like it was on viagra all season.

	Stefanski and Schwartz should for surely win. Garrett has a good chance, Garrett is the best defensive player in the NFL on the best defense - so fuck TJ Watt. Flacco should win Comeback Player of the Year, Hamlin played 5 games this year with his total stats being 2 tackles so he literally did nothing in terms of performance - but the NFL might give it to Hamlin for PR purposes.
