The words "the other things" were not in the original draft of the speech but were ad libbed by the President during his speech.

When you go back through his speech, that is back from the "the other things" point, you find this: 
' we intend to be first. In short, our leadership in science and in industry, our hopes for peace and security [...]':

In my view it is clear that
leadership in science and industry and
peace and security,
were to what President Kennedy referred with his words "the other things".

I find the answer from the the Google AI inadequate.
