There's a difference between protesting and interfering with law enforcement.

Sometimes, the person will have greater charges because the weapon was part of the illegal activity. Other charges occur because of the weapon itself in connection with the crime. If a person has a concealed firearm on his or her body, this may lead to charges for the gun when he or she does not have a permit or is carrying it in a restricted area.

The Increase of Charges

There are many times just having a weapon will increase the severity of charges and cause more serious penalties when convicted of the illegal activity. This may happen when the individual is in a place such as a store and attempting to steal something. Other times, he or she may carry the weapon and intimidate or try to force the person into a certain situation. Just carrying the weapon causes intimidation and fear. This added to the other charges incurred for the crime will generally increase the seriousness and most of the circumstances the person will face such as the view of the court, the charges and the penalties if a conviction does happen.
