I went to Cleveland about 2 months ago to the House of Blues for a concert (Bleeding Through)

Walked the city...reminds me alot of Buffalo except for the fact that Cleveland has a crazy tall bank skyscraper which rocks

I also loved the waterfront stadium and the rock and roll HOF

I don't understand how our cities are on the fastest dying lists. Are you losing population like Buffalo supposedly is?

Sorry if this off topic

Just liked to share my Cleveland story.
Unfortunately traffic planning is usually an afterthought of economic development. And no one designs for rush hour traffic (if we did, we'd have MASSIVE highways that are underutilized all but 6 hours a day).

I haven't been to Cleveland since...man...I don't remember. It can't be much worse than it was back in the 80's.

I went during the afternoon and reminded alot like Buffalo

I would take them after 9PM or so. A few bucks spent on a cab is better than getting punched in the face and robbed.

Me and G-Man got up early on the Saturday and "hit the town" at 8am. I was kind of expecting a New York / Chicago experience. Man, it was a ghost town, just some shady looking dudes clocking us pasty out of town white boys walking round looking for somewhere open for breakfast! (which we couldn't find) I put it down to people working in the city but not living in the city. Is it also that quiet in the week?

As Shep says, it has much to be excited about re hotels / sports / music venues / museums etc etc so it would be sad to see it decline. Re the feral gangbangers, does downtown Cleveland have major issues here? I have to admit to complete naiveity here, me and the G-Man walked everywhere at all hours, usually intoxicated, last year. Were we being stupid, are taxis the way forward next week?

HowieDawg

Reply to How is Cleveland one of the fastest dying cities? on Wed, 12 Nov 2008 01:37:05 GMT

\ said:

Compared to Buffalo, it probably is.

I am a Clevelander, and always will be even though i don't live there anymore.

It is near dead because there isn't any tax money there anymore while keeping it affordable....just like Buffalo.
