They throw out terms like "mediocre talent," "low mid-major," and "fourteen-game bowl losing streak" like they actually mean something (and not as proof that they just hate the conference, which is the truth).

And lo and behold, look at the "inferior" MAC conference now!

--Not one, but two coaches hired from Central Michigan to run Cincinnati in the last three years. Add in Turner Gill at Kansas, and the "elite" conferences just can't keep their hands off of MAC talent--yeah, like they'd be all over themselves to hire a coach from a "mid-major" conference.

--Of the coaches that haven't yet been plucked to coach at "elite" schools, most are coached by guys who have either played for, worked at, or watched games played by BCS schools. If that's not talent, I don't know what is.

--And tonight, the crowning achievement, Cental Michigan beat Troy (commonly known as the Notre Dame of the Sun Belt).

Sure, the haters will want to point out the other MAC teams that lost, but that was against elite competition...I mean, UCLA easily could have gone 7-5 in the regular season, and Temple still kept it within two scores. And everybody's "last team left out of the BCS," South Florida, had to struggle to eke out that 24-point win over Northern Illinois.

I tell ya, anybody who doesn't see that the MAC is back just doesn't want to see the truth.

My definition of impact:

Any impact player must be at least one and preferably most if not all of the following:

1)	Individually if you get the records for yardage or scoring (i.e. Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Dan Marino)

2)	Individually if you change the nature by which your position is played (i.e. Michael Vick (arguable), Peyton Manning, Lawrence Taylor, Roger Craig)

3)	If you inspire others to play great around you (Ray Lewis, John Elway, Joshua Cribbs)

4)	If the player’s absence (includes taking plays off) would be felt and potentially cause wins to come much tougher or losses to occur (Mike Baab, Randy Moss, Emitt Smith)

5)	If just saying the name inspires fear in other players and fans (Jim Brown, Mean Joe Greene, Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Joshua Cribbs)

A single impact player is not likely to get you to, or win you the super bowl. But several impact players certainly can and will.

On my list, Hines Ward has just as many rings as his two Steeler teammates in the original list. I wouldn’t even put him close to Moss’s impact though.

If I’m not mistaken, Moss was not on any of the Patriot championship teams? So does that mean by your criteria that Ward has had more impact than Moss? Ridiculous.

Thaak. I defined impact for my reply. What's your definition? Stick your neck out too. Naysaying is too easy and I thought you were above that from your other posts. I have been wrong before though.

You haven't listed three players from the last ten years (or even from the same conference) either. Play JoeSixPat's game right.

And, yes, by my criteria Ward outranks Moss, doesn't he? Count the rings, that's why people play the game, not individual stats. The Steelers definitely agree Ward had more impact. Oh, yeah, you picked a SB MVP for your example, talk about impact.

In fairness to Moss he did put the Pats up with 2:50 to go in LXII before Eli got lucky.

So, to compare apples and apples, I think you should go find three guys from the same college conference who excelled at their positions with more rings for the last decade. No fair listing long snappers.

Otherwise define what you mean by impact so that I might have access to where you are coming from.

Also, ridiculous? Up your ass with ridiculous. Or maybe you could just shove that fish in your avatar up there.

c-dawg

Reply to The MAC is Back! on Thu, 07 Jan 2010 18:42:29 GMT

For a team perhaps. hm that was pretty easy

any more questions?

Impact for me ultimately means championships. The list BuckeyeBest2 gave has far less rings than JoeSixPat's list. Joe's list has had more impact.

c-dawg

Reply to The MAC is Back! on Thu, 07 Jan 2010 17:51:38 GMT

JosephSixpack said:
The MAC is no joke.

Other than that, he's pretty good.

He pretty much caused the Iowa game to be close all by himself....that and the kick return breakdown, which for OSU has turned into an epidemic.

finally, someone else sees the light! i have a close circle of about 5 buckeye friends, and everyone says Chekwa has the ability to be an NFL corner. I replayed the Iowa game and literally EVERY play iowa made for scores was on Chekwa getting burned. He is beyond garbage. Teams will run 4 receiver sets with 3 on one side, and immediately look on the short side the Chekwa is guarding. Jim knows it too, but for some reason he keeps him on the field. Worst corner i've seen play there EVER, i mean that seriously.

No joke, watching ohio state and Chekwa turned into a gamble every week with my friends. If he blew more than 5 plays, they bought the beer. I won 5 times.

jrb12711

Reply to The MAC is Back! on Thu, 07 Jan 2010 17:35:46 GMT

JosephSixpack said:
The MAC is no joke.

i think it's unfair to put harrison in there. i mean he's been really good the last couple of years but but he was unheard of until he slammed that browns fan in 2005 when he was on special teams.

ClevelandFanForLife
