The Browns Board is a fan forum at brownsboard.com, run by one Browns fan. This page says what the forum collects, why, and who else handles it. Questions or requests go to [email protected].
What we collect
- Your account: username, email address, and your password stored as a one way hash, never in plain text.
- What you add: posts, chats, reactions, uploads, and the profile fields you fill in, like picture, signature, about me, website, location, birthday, gender and interests.
- IP addresses from sign ups and logins, kept to fight spam and abuse.
- Cookies: a session cookie that keeps you logged in and a security token for forms. Cloudflare may set its own security cookies. Your light or dark theme choice stays in your browser. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Accounts from the old forum
If you had an account on the old Browns Board at thebrownsboard.com, your account, posts, private messages (now chats), reactions and profile moved here with the forum. Your old password works for your first login, and is then replaced with a new hash.
Who else handles data
- Cloudflare runs the network in front of the site, the signup check, file storage for uploads, and our email. It sees your IP address and the pages you load.
- StopForumSpam: when you sign up or change your email, your IP address and email are checked against its spam list.
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google. Google then shares your name, email address and profile picture with us.
- Embedded content: posts can show YouTube, Vimeo or Twitch players and pictures hosted on other sites. Your browser loads those from the other site, which sees your IP address.
- Ko-fi handles donations on its own site. We only see what Ko-fi shows us about a donation.
- Hetzner hosts the servers the forum runs on.
Game day threads use public game data from ESPN. None of your data goes to ESPN. We do not sell your information and do not share it with advertisers.
What is public
Your username, profile, and what you post in the forums can be seen by anyone, including search engines. Public posts can also reach other sites through ActivityPub (the fediverse), and those sites keep their own copies. Your email address is never shown. Chats are private to the people in them, but the admin can read them when handling a report.
How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. You can delete your account in your profile settings, or ask us to. Your posts then stay up as posts from a former member unless you ask us to remove them too. Backups roll off after about 30 days.
Your choices
You can edit your profile, edit or delete your posts, and download your data from the consent page in your profile settings. Email us to correct or remove anything else.
Children
The forum is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and we post about it on the forum.
