Rookie of the Year Award
-
In another thread, it was mentioned that Colon Cowsass compared Mayfield to Vince Young or RGIII. Which he has no clue.
Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Ben R.......each won Rookie of the Year. Mayfield could just as easily join that crowd as join the crowd that later flopped.
Something also to note: From 1967 to 2004, only 2 QBs won the Offensive Rookie of the year award. Since 2004..7 QBs have won ROTY .
Since 2004, ROTY included: Ben R. 2004, Vince Young 2006, Matt Ryan 2008, Sam Bradford 2010; Cam Newton 2011; RGIII 2012, and Dak Prescott 2016.
From 1967 to 2004 ONLY Dennis Shaw 1970 Buffalo Bills and Dan Marino 1984 Miami Dolphins were QBs that won the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
In that entire 37 year period, those 2 QBs won, 7 wide receivers won, and the rest....28 were Running Backs.
No Tight End or Offensive Lineman has ever won the Award.
Who do you think is in the lead for this award? (as if I have to ask)

WHO IS THE PEPSI ROOKIE OF THE WEEK?
In Week 12 of the 2018 NFL season, plenty of first-year players made impacts on the field for their respective teams. Which rookie stood out the most to earn Pepsi Rookie of the Week honors?

TreQuan Smith...WR Saints...1 win

Offensive ROTY Winners (1967–present)[edit]

Note on the above: The Browns have only ever had ONE ROTY.....Chip Banks, Defensive ROTY, 1982.
It would be sweet if they swept both awards this year: Baker on O, Ward on D.
(though I wager that these voters would not opt to do that....they will probably give it to that LB from Indy....unless Denzel can have a couple of more lights out games)

Since you asked, MHO Baker's only serious competition for offensive ROTY is Saquon Barkley.
Nice if Mayfield wins, but it's not the end of the world if he doesn't.
PS, looking at those lists, plenty of HOFers on it- and very few that flamed out later on.

Don’t jinx the kid. Look what it did for RG knee

If he doesn't watch out, he might end up having the best season by a new era Browns QB.
Might not end up with the gawdy '07 Derek Anderson stats, but overall could end up better.

Anderson's stats were decent..
29TDs, but he did throw 19INTs...

Two totally different QBs. But then again, just in case...

You worry Baker may be another RG? I don’t see them in the same ballpark if that’s what you mean. The zip and accuracy Baker has is on a different level. Much more between the ears and just more determination imo

Already said- only competition is Saquon Barkley 828 yards, behind only Elliott, Gurley, and Connor. 8 TDs, not too shabby playing behind a lousy o-line.
Compared to all the other rookie qbs, Baker stands alone. He's the only one with a positive TD-INT ratio.
I could see Barkley getting it even if it’s undeserved based on all the media hummers he gets.
