Yes there's probably some truth in that. Unfortunately one of the main truths is that anyone needs advisors but should select advisors who are compatible with your political strategy. For instance had the president wanted to take a more militaristic and more aggressive stand in the Middle East and elsewhere I would imagine his advisers should include people like Lynn Chaney and John Bolton who come from that military preemptive Bush Doctrine type of mindset.
Improper selection of advisors I think has been one of the president's weaker traits.
