My grandma used to tell a story about having some Indian ancestor. I think that (the story of having an Indian ancestor) is super common in North America especially among older generations.
I would go out on a limb though and say it's almost always bullshit.

A buddy’s mom was so thoroughly convinced of the “lost tribal family member” that she decorated their house in goofy flea market Indian stuff.
Plot twist: she is 6ft tall and blonde. Did a 23 and me. Scandinavian and like 1% Native haha. It was a rough time for her haha.

Those genetic dna tests are often often a huge disappointment. I know from family records that a lot of my ancestors came from Ireland but apparently Generations before that they had moved from Scotland to Ireland before coming to America.
